If you've heard Chuck Swindoll preach on any of the Insight for Living programs,read any of his books or have had your children listen to the Paws & Tales national broadcasts on the radio, then you will be excited to learn that Tyndale House has recently released the first two Paws & Tales animated DVDs in February 2011.

The Paws & Tales videos communicate biblical truth and show kids how they can apply it to real life. The DVDs feature full-length animated episodes, music videos, an e-book, activities, and parent resources.

Chuck Swindoll comments to parents: “Laying a good spiritual foundation in your children is essential . . . and even better when it’s reinforced early and often. (Amen to that!) Paws & Tales is a great tool for helping you build godly character into your kids.”

God Cares For You is the first DVD in the series. The two featured episodes: "The Good Shepherd" and "A Good Foundation" are based on the verses Psalm 23:1 and Proverbs 10:25 respectively. The episodes address how much God loves us and how we need to build a relationship with God that is rock solid, with the right foundation.



Overcoming Fears, the second DVD in the series was a favorite at home.


The DVD features two episodes- "If the Tooth Be Known", centering around Joshua 1:9 and "High Noon", based on Isaiah 12:2. Both episodes deal with two types of fear a child is generally faced with- stage fright and the big "B"....yes the Big Bad Bully!!

All four stories were clearly presented though I personally preferred the ones in "Overcoming Fears" better as the specific topics were addressed in a more straight forward manner.

Animation wise, you should be prepared for nothing very spectacular. The cartoons are more "oldies goldies" in feature but that did not in any way wane Bunny girl's interest watching the same.

I love looking through the Christian products stores have for babies and kids. I was excited to find something I've never seen before- 27 Bible ABC Building Blocks by Alphabet Alley.


These wooden blocks feature two alphabets per block so you tend to have each alphabet featured twice.

This is a fun way to teach younger children their alphabets and have a corresponding Biblical picture to associate each letter with.

For Example: J for Jesus and A for Angel.

For the older kids this is a neat way to encourage them to identify and spell words. Bunny girl has recently begun to put letters together to spell small words so we've been having a great time with these.


My only bone of contention with this gift is the ink on one solitary block smudged away completely. I'm not sure what went wrong with that one block as I did try wiping away the letters on some of the other blocks but thankfully nothing happened.
Oh well. I guess there always has to be one little black sheep in the tribe.

I love that Christian Gifts Place sows 2% of all sales (before taxes and shipping) to Young Life Ministries. {Young Life is a non-denominational, Christian organization committed to impacting kid's lives and preparing them for the future.} This definitely makes buying gifts from them all the more worth the while!

I remember the summer my sister and I spent with my granduncle and aunt. Both were well advanced in age and not having had any children of their own made our time there pass really slowly. Thankfully one afternoon I discovered a chest filled with little inspirational magazines. Being the teen I was, the magazines looked nothing like a fun read but considering I had nothing else to do that afternoon, I decided to give one magazine a try. I'm glad I did because that's where my love for Guideposts began.

I can personally testify about how I have been blessed and encouraged in my faith walk because of the wonderful stories I've read by wonderful men and women like Sue Monk Kidd.
Their catch phrase "A little inspiration…it can change your day, even your life" has proven to be true not just in my life but in the lives of many, like my Mother.

Two years ago, my mother's friend blessed her with a Daily Guideposts Devotional for the year. My mother was encouraged and strengthened in her faith as she went through the same, diligently through the year. She was naturally thrilled when she received the 2010 Devotional for her birthday as she'd now made the Devotions a part of her daily "quiet time" with the LORD. I know she will be excited to learn that I will be saving the 35th anniversary edition, the Daily Guideposts 2011 Devotional just for her.


The 2011 theme is "Growing In Love".
How apt.
1 Corinthians 13:13 says "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
As Christians we sometimes tend to enjoy being in our comfortable territories and as long as no hair is ruffled on our heads, we're oblivious to the anything else around us. But honestly that's so far from what Christ would want our lives to reflect and this is a wonderful devotional to encourage us in our love towards family members, friends, co-workers and even the strangers that cross our path.

Each devotion for the day includes:
• A short Scripture verse for reflection
• A true, first-person story, told in a conversational style
• A brief prayer to help put the day's message to work in you

At the end of each month is included two pages of "Notes" listing out dates for that month, that you can use to jot down a thought, reflection or verse that may have encouraged you for each specific day.

This Devotional may be used for personal encouragement in your daily "quiet time", for married couples, families or even as a Bible study tool for house prayer groups.

I've found that so much is commercialized nowadays that the essence of important holidays have lost their meaning completely.

Ask a group of children what they think Christmas is about and 9 out of 10 of them will say Santa Claus (if not all of them.) The same with Easter....apparently it's all about the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs!
While all the fun stuff is okay, I personally feel a child SHOULD be taught why Christmas and Easter is really special. The Birth of Christ and His Resurrection is important and a child should know the "Reason" behind these "Seasons"

The CD features 12 Easter songs that I personally feel are some of the most mellow Veggie Tales songs I've heard so far. It s honestly a nice change and while listening to the songs, I felt like I was transported back to the middle pew in the Anglican church I used to attend as a little girl. But don't worry in true Veggie Tales fashion, you do have the wacky ones like How Now Easter Cow.

Favorites in this CD include Hosanna Loud Hosanna, The Easter Song and I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.

We saved the Bob and Larry plush to give Bunny girl on her birthday and said it was from Bunny Boo....


You should've seen the tickled expression on her face!

Both plush toys are made of soft velour material and feel like velvet. I have no qualms in letting Bunny Boo play with the same as the quality of the plush is superior and I don't have to worry about him swallowing fine cloth fibers!
