The Stocked Kitchen (Book Review)

The Buzz:

The Stocked Kitchen
is the first complete meal creation system with only one standard list of groceries. If your kitchen is "Stocked" with these ingredients you will always have what you need to create any of the 300 delicious recipes found in this book. These recipes have been used for all of the authors' own dining needs, including meals for drop-in guests, special occasions, and every-night family dinners. The Stocked Kitchen encompasses all parts of the meal creation process from shopping, to storing, to cooking, to serving. The results are delicious, “guest worthy” meals made from real, basic ingredients.

Sarah Kallio and Stacey Krastins have proven The Stocked Kitchen system works. It has reduced their grocery bills, stress levels, trips to the market, and food waste.

Create more delicious meals while removing the handcuffs of pre-planning.
One grocery list, endless recipes!

E.B. Mommy's Report:

At first glance you'd think this 368 paged book with over 300 recipes is just another great cookbook to add to your collection but if you comb through the pages you will see that it is much more. It's the answer to every Mom's overflowing pantry of cans, provisions and more that in all likelihood will not find it to the dinner table for a good several weeks, that is if they don't expire before that!

I love how the book introduces the reader to how the "system" should work if understood and applied right and then only are the recipes introduced. Recipes include a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, pastas, meat dishes, veggie dishes, breakfast dishes, desserts and more.

The recipes are short and easy to carry out. On some recipes you even have a quick practical tested and tried tip for that recipe that just gives it that "touch of home".

I have to admit that I'm yet to put the system into practice but knowing that every product I buy from the store would be used that week and not go into storage, is really egging me to try it soon.

This is a definite recommendation especially if you see your family has been stocking up but not putting to best use the "loot" in the pantry. A planned, practical way to say goodbye to wastage!

Buy It:

You can buy The Stocked Kitchen for 24.99 US$
(Hits the market on July 5th, 2011)

Summertime Adventure With Dinosaur Train

Summertime is here and what better way to spend the summer with family and friends than on an adventure to visit one of our national parks and/or recreation destinations. July is Park and Recreation Month in the U.S., and the theme for this year’s celebration is “Rock Your Park.” The National Park and Recreation Association wants you to show the country how parks and recreation make your life extraordinary! Whether it is visiting your local park, a playground, swimming pool, or taking a family trip to one of our national park treasures, celebrate our country’s love of the great outdoors this month! Visit the NRPA’s website to find out ways to get involved.

You can also turn your visit to the local park into a game by participating in the Dinosaur Train Geocache Challenge. Geocaching is a family friendly outdoor adventure that blends technology, gaming and environmental discovery. Each geocache features one of the dinosaurs found on the online Dinosaur Train Field Guide and contains educational information related to that dinosaur. So, perhaps pick your local park as a destination to hide your own Dinosaur Train container.

Buddy and his friends on the Dinosaur Train are always up for an adventure and exploring the world around them. Why not take them along on your adventure to the park or camping or on a family road trip with all-new fun and easy travel products for camping/outdoors, new games and fun to read books to pack on your adventure!

· New book from Reader’s Digest: Dinosaur Train Lift the Flap “Let’s Go To Volcano Valley” (SRP: $9.99). Ages 2+.

In this book, get ready to board the Dinosaur Train and meet some new friends! Buddy, the adorable preschooler Tyrannosaurus Rex, and this adoptive Pteranodon family are always on the move. Today, they are going to Volcano Valley. Along the way, the train is making stops at the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous stations to make dozens of dinosaur discoveries. With more than 40 flaps to lift, kids will want to explore Buddy’s world again and again!

· New Dinosaur Train product for camping adventures Pacific Playtents (available in October) includes: the Dinosaur Train Station House Tent (SRP: $89.90); Dinosaur Train Dino Bones Dome Tent ($59.90); Dinosaur Train Dino Bones Tunnel ($59.90). Ages 3+.

Tune in on July 4th to Dinosaur Train on PBS KIDS (check local listings) in the adventurous episode “Buddy the Tracker.” In the episode, Buddy and Don are “footprint detectives” as they track and find creatures they know at the Big Pond. The plot thickens when they discover fossilized tracks that are millions of years old!

Although the summer vacation comes to an end in August, fun with Dinosaur Train continues! Get ready for an all-new season of Dinosaur Train this August with “Dinosaur Big City” on PBS Kids premieres August 22 and the DVD release of Dinosaur Train: Dinosaur Big City on August 23 (SRP: $14.99).

Summer Scholastic Reads (4 Book Reviews)

Summer has rolled around and with that so have a host of Summer Reading Programs. To add some punch to the reading festivities here are 4 new Scholastic picks that you can introduce your child.
I know three out of the four are better suited for a Father's Day but lets celebrate Dads in July too. Dads are the pillars in our family and deserve to be celebrated the whole year through, right?!

Now to the books....

LaRue across America

In this hilarious book, Ike's plans for a peaceful cruise with Mrs. LaRue are thwarted when their neighbor, Mrs. Hibbins, falls suddenly ill from heat stroke. Mrs. LaRue suggests that she and Ike care for her cats while Mrs. Hibbins is in the hospital, inviting them along on the cruise. But cats aren't allowed, and Mrs. LaRue decides to take them all on a week's vacation of road-tripping.

Ike begs and begs for bus fare in his letters to Mrs. Hibbins, but she does not respond. As they drive farther and farther from the coast, his wistful dreams of a cruise fade into desperation over the desert horizon.

I have to admit that I think this book is one of my favorite "funny" books for kids. The humor spun into each page as Ike's desperation builds, is hilarious. Older children and adults may be able to to better appreciate Ike's snarky postcard jots than the younger ones.

A definite must read for a good laugh!

When I Grow Up

"What will I be when I grow up" is a question all of us will hear tumble out, at some point, of our children's mouths. This beautiful book begins with a little boy asking his Daddy the same question and discovering that everything begins small and then slowly grows to become something magnificent.
The fuzzy caterpillar becomes a colorful butterfly, the little sprout becomes a tall tree.... then the little boy realizes that he has finally found the answer to his question!
(You will need to read the book to find out more!)

Daddy's Little Scout

This sweet book tells the story of Little Fox and Daddy as they go on their own little "house hunting" adventure tumbling down hills, counting rabbits and playing in the stream.
The Daddy-Son duo explore the homes of their woodland buddies and finally find the home that's just right for Daddy and his Little Fox.

My Daddy and Me

My Daddy and Me
is a book that shares the love between a father and his child right from the beginning of the book till the end. The bond they share is likened to complementing pairs like peanut butter and jelly, rakes and leaves and the moon and the stars. Truly a love relationship that is special and everlasting!

Buy It:

You can buy
  • LaRue Across America for 16.99 US$
  • When I Grow Up for 16.99 US$
  • Daddy's Little Scout for 10.99 US$ and
  • Daddy and Me for 3.99 US$.

Who knew picking a headboard could be so hard? (A moreheadboards.com post)

.
From all the beds I've ever slept in the one the one that has been the most comfortable is my mother's. There's just something about her bed....it's huge, cushioned in all the right places yet firm and very dramatic looking with it's solid dark wood headboard. Now our king size bed is still waiting for me to pick the right headboard (I admit I am very picky) and till I find just the right one, our bed will just have to look "un-glam"!

I have been window-headboard shopping online and have found a few I fancy, like this practical bookcase design....

But with 2 little ones who love flipping books I can picture how many times in a day I would be cleaning up book piles on the bed!

There is one design I've fallen head over heels with though, it's this gorgeous Merlot finish bookcase cum storage headboard.

Now that beats my Mommy's headboard any day but trying to get Hubby to accept the big chop out of the bank balance with this one will not be a walk in the park....so I guess the search continues!

With all the designs out there it's hard to narrow down especially as I have found a few headboards that I like but sadly they're either headboards for queen size beds or headboards for full size beds.
To look on the positive side, atleast I'm sure that I want something with a 100% wood design. I'm not a tufted headboard person and prefer to stay away from the metal designs, so that narrows the search down a little!

I'm just glad that buying a headboard is not an annual task but if I don't find one for our bed soon, it might just end up being a year long task!

BIG NEWS!! :We're Moving AND....

When I started Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports in 2009 it started off as a personal blog about our "energizer bunny" Bunny girl. Over the months, opportunities came up and God opened doors that I never ever would have imagined would open. He has brought this blog to where it is today and I give God all the glory for what it has become.

When I began I didn't know a thing about Alexa ranks, Page ranks, Google followers, Twitter followings etc but today Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports has over 2360 Google followers, 3800 Twitter followers, an Alexa ranking of 109,268 in the world and a Google Page Rank of a 4. When I look at the statistics I sit humbled at what God has done and I'm so grateful for the growth.

Everyone knows that Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports functions on a Blogger platform and that the past month was not too kind to Blogger users. The missing posts, missing Google Friend Connect boxes, missing comments and more alerted everyone that something could go crazy if one fine day one's blog just disappeared into Cyberspace! (and we all know that this has happened to several blog authors.) This made me think and bounce ideas off Hubby and after a lot of prayer and thought, we decided it was time for us to....
MOVE!!

That's right, we're finally moving over to Wordpress. It's official! I know this will mean a lot of change and hopping out of my Blogger comfort zone but I'm just trusting God to take us through the transition.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

Oh yes there's more!

When the blog started it was centered around our darling Bunny girl but a year down the line, precious Bunny Boo arrived....the result of an answered prayer. Ever since Bunny Boo's birth I've had it on my mind to change the name of the blog but changing the name to "pluralize" it would just make it a little more complex to type out....so after a lot of "name" storming and yes lots of prayer we decided that we'd be changing the name of the blog to something short and sweet.

This would also mean I'd be changing the blog's design and yes the cute little bunny would bid adieu and though I am attached to the little fluffy being, I'm excited with the new name Bunny girl, Hubby and I picked.

I can't wait to share the name with you....
but....
NOT today!
(Suspense brings me great pleasure....giggle!)

Keep checking back for more details on when exactly I will be making the move, who is helping me with the same, details on a super-dee-duper launch event with awesome giveaways and ofcourse....
THE NAME!

Thanks again for all the love and support.

God bless!

Team Umizoomi DVD (+Giveaway)- 3 winners

Nickelodeon Home Entertainment brings, for the first time ever on DVD, the series that will introduce your child to numbers, patterns and early math development....Team Umizoomi. This number-iffic DVD zooms into your home on June 28, 2011.

The Buzz:

This 95 minute DVD features 4 number crunching episodes that include....

The Rolling Toy Parade

Nick has been picked to lead the Rolling Toy Parade going through Umi City. As he proudly makes his way to the Park, his lion toy tumbles down a hill, breaks apart and is foraged by park animals! Team Umizoomi must decode Mr. Squirrel’s doorbell pattern, search his tree trunk burrow for the missing wheels, embark on a high altitude chase with Mama Hawk and teach the Baby Hawks how to braid a pull string.

The Legend of the Blue Mermaid

Team Umizoomi discovers the statue of the Blue Mermaid (Jordin Sparks) while visiting the beach. According to legend, the mermaid with her sparkly blue scales once lived happily in the water by Umi City. But one day, a scheming squid named Squiddy captured the mermaid so that he could keep her sparkling light all to himself. The team must count, recognize shapes and identify patterns in order to rescue the Blue Mermaid from Squiddy’s secret sand castle. It won’t be an easy task as Squiddy will stop at nothing to keep Team Umizoomi from using their mighty math powers to save the day.

Kite Festival

Today is the Umi City Kite Festival and Jeannie is ready to fly her beautiful dragon kite. Out of nowhere, a strong gust of wind blows the kite out of her hands and scatters its colorful shaped pieces throughout Umi City. Luckily, Geo is a shape expert and the Team is positive they can find all the missing pieces. They rappel down city billboards, build a hot air balloon and search the tops of skyscrapers. Can they get Jeannie’s Dragon kite back together in time for the Festival?

Wild West Toy Train Show

Geo can’t wait to meet his friend Ethan at The Smokey Mountain Toy Train Show and see all the cool trains! As he gets ready to leave the Secret Headquarters, the Umi-Alarm sounds. Ethan’s golden ticket for the show has blown into the exhibit and landed somewhere at the top of Smokey Mountain! Team Umizoomi springs into action and hops a ride on the toy trains to the top of Smokey Mountain. Along the way, they use their math powers to get through Crystal Cave, cross Rumble Bridge, pan for gold and build a new engine with Geo’s super shapes.

The DVD also includes special features and a Math mission card for your child to solve on-the-go math problems.

E.B. Mommy's Report:

The little Umizoomi mathematical superheroes tie in songs and lessons to teach children even as young as 2 elementary math problems and get them to develop a love for numbers. Bunny girl has never really paid attention to Umizoomi but this DVD helped fuel a little Umi love, I think! She loves maths and Hubby has been bouncing of little addition and subtraction story scenarios for her to solve so the 4 episodes were interestingly fun especially the 'Rolling Toy Parade' one.

If you haven't introduced your preschooler to Umizoomi yet, I definitely suggest doing that soon.

Buy it:

You can pre-order the Team Umizoomi DVD on Amazon at a reduced price of 11.99 US$ (Original Price: 16.99 US$)

Win it:

Three readers will win the opportunity to own a copy each of the Team Umizoomi DVD.
