Summertime Adventure With Dinosaur Train

Summertime is here and what better way to spend the summer with family and friends than on an adventure to visit one of our national parks and/or recreation destinations. July is Park and Recreation Month in the U.S., and the theme for this year’s celebration is “Rock Your Park.” The National Park and Recreation Association wants you to show the country how parks and recreation make your life extraordinary! Whether it is visiting your local park, a playground, swimming pool, or taking a family trip to one of our national park treasures, celebrate our country’s love of the great outdoors this month! Visit the NRPA’s website to find out ways to get involved.

You can also turn your visit to the local park into a game by participating in the Dinosaur Train Geocache Challenge. Geocaching is a family friendly outdoor adventure that blends technology, gaming and environmental discovery. Each geocache features one of the dinosaurs found on the online Dinosaur Train Field Guide and contains educational information related to that dinosaur. So, perhaps pick your local park as a destination to hide your own Dinosaur Train container.

Buddy and his friends on the Dinosaur Train are always up for an adventure and exploring the world around them. Why not take them along on your adventure to the park or camping or on a family road trip with all-new fun and easy travel products for camping/outdoors, new games and fun to read books to pack on your adventure!

· New book from Reader’s Digest: Dinosaur Train Lift the Flap “Let’s Go To Volcano Valley” (SRP: $9.99). Ages 2+.

In this book, get ready to board the Dinosaur Train and meet some new friends! Buddy, the adorable preschooler Tyrannosaurus Rex, and this adoptive Pteranodon family are always on the move. Today, they are going to Volcano Valley. Along the way, the train is making stops at the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous stations to make dozens of dinosaur discoveries. With more than 40 flaps to lift, kids will want to explore Buddy’s world again and again!

· New Dinosaur Train product for camping adventures Pacific Playtents (available in October) includes: the Dinosaur Train Station House Tent (SRP: $89.90); Dinosaur Train Dino Bones Dome Tent ($59.90); Dinosaur Train Dino Bones Tunnel ($59.90). Ages 3+.

The plot thickens when they discover fossilized tracks that are millions of years old!

Although the summer vacation comes to an end in August, fun with Dinosaur Train continues! Get ready for an all-new season of Dinosaur Train this August with “Dinosaur Big City” on PBS Kids premieres August 22 and the DVD release of Dinosaur Train: Dinosaur Big City on August 23 (SRP: $14.99).

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Do you have a preschooler who "wants to know everything about everything"? Well then he'll be in good company with Jim Henson Productions inquisitive 5 year old Sid. Bunny girl loves Sid the Science Kid and honestly I love settling down on the couch and watching him on PBS Kids too!

One of Bunny girl's favorite parts in each episode is when Sid shouts his name into his microphone and it echos out powerfully.(That somehow tickles her no end!)
If your little one loves that part too, you really should pick up Playskool's Sid the Science Kid Gotta Know microphone

Perfect for little hands to grasp, this replica of Sid's microphone is 6.5 x 3.5 x 9 inches in dimension and uses 3 AAA batteries to work. The 4 colored buttons when respectively pressed resound laughter, provide an applause, play the Sid the Science Kid theme song and (Bunny girl's favorite one of all...) create an echo when spoken into the set.
The little ones will also be humored to hear silly sounds (like the moo-ing of a cow!) randomly popping up when they press the 'theme music' button.

This is an entertaining toy for your child especially if they like 'pretend play' and if they're Sid fans, then all the better!

Pair the toy with the Sid the Science Kid-Gizmos and Gadgets DVD

Your preschooler will spend 115 minutes with Sid, learning about how heavy things can be lifted and what helps make our lives easier, with the 4 featured episodes
  • The Broken Wheel
  • My Slide
  • Sid's Amazing Invention and
  • The Tree House
Not only will your child enjoy watching Sid but he/she will walk away learning something new. (Thanks to the DVD Bunny girl now knows what a pulley is.)

CLOSED: Learning Curve's Interactive Dino Train Pals (+BTS Giveaway #9)

This post is a 'Back To School 2010 Carnival' feature on Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports.
The Carnival runs from August 15-August 28 2010.
For a list of all the live giveaways visit 'The BTS 2010 Stop!'

Learning Curve has proven to be a leader in the educational toy market not just with traditional products but with innovative, attention grabbing toys like their latest line of interactive Dinosaur Train pals that actually talk to each other! Don't believe me? Check this out....

Learning Curve's Dinosaur Train line employs impressive Smart Talk technology that brings the dinosaur characters to life with interactive conversation between the figures. Both interactive Dinosaur Train pals belt out 40 real dinosaur sounds, facts and character phrases each. These are triggered off when one of the multiple activation touch points is pressed.
The simple conversation between two or more Dinosaur Train pals incorporates educative 'dino facts' about each dinosaur that ultimately stay embedded in a child's mind.

Bunny girl was sent Buddy and Tiny and has already memorized their little 'dino fact phrases' down to the smallest details and I'm very impressed! As a 4 year old I never did know any 'nitty gritty' details about a Tyrannosaurus Rex let alone a Pteranadon but Bunny girl can now tell you that a Pteranadon is a Carnivore that loves fish, thanks to her Dinosaur Train pals !!

It's also so neat to watch both Buddy and Tiny interact with each other. The Smart Talk technology embedded in the figures enables them to recognize and respond to each other.
For instance, when Buddy begins to sing "We're gonna ride....", Tiny joins him to complete the characteristic theme song line with "The Dinosaur Train". They even laugh at each other's sentences!

The Learning Curve line also includes Dinosaur Train collectible figures, plush and other toys but I personally think Learning Curve has hit it out of the park with these interactive Dinosaur Train pals...definitely the cream of the line!

Buy it:

You can buy Tiny, Buddy and Morris interaction figures for 14.99 US$ each. Tank and Ned cost a little more at 19.99 US$ each. You can buy these interactive Dinosaur Train pals in these stores near you.

Win it:

Never in my wildest of dreams would I have thought I'd say this but thanks to the ingenious creative minds behind the Dinosaur Train I'm actually very interested in learning more about dinosaurs! (Even Bunny girl is now hooked onto all things 'Dino'!)

This morning, PBS kids even hosted a one hour television special to promote the hit CGI animated series Dinosaur Train, featuring Buddy, Tiny and the rest of the Pteranodon family as they embark on their very first underwater adventure exploring the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic oceans to learn more about the aquatic creatures therein.

The underwater adventures will be released on dvd on August 24,2010 and will include these eight exciting, educational episodes
  • Elmer Elasmosaurus (A giant long necked marine reptile that can hold its breath)
  • Carla Cretoxyrhina (A friendly little shark)
  • The Amazing Michelinoceras Brothers (Two creatures that travel backwards)
  • Paulie Pliosaurus (T-Rex of the ocean)
  • Elmer Visits The Desert
  • Shiny's Sea Shells
  • Jess Hesperornis
  • The Old Spinosaurus And The Sea

This unique series has already begun to win awards for the casual, informative manner in which preschool aged T-Rex Buddy teaches the young (and adult) viewer basic scientific thinking and skills while diving into a world of natural science, natural history and paleontology. (Who would've thought learning all this could be fun?)

This August 24 2010 release from The Jim Henson Company, PBS Kids and Paramount Entertainment has an approximate run time of 120 minutes and also includes additional bonus features - games, coloring pages, a parental reference guide and a super cool dinosaur reference guide.

CLOSED: Get Ready For Kindergarten Month with the Dinosaur Train(+BTS Giveaway #2)

This post is a 'Back To School 2010 Carnival' feature on Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports.
The Carnival runs from August 15-August 28 2010.
For a list of all the live giveaways visit 'The BTS 2010 Stop!'

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

School is right around the corner, and it’s time for parents to jump aboard the DINOSAUR TRAIN to celebrate “Get Ready for Kindergarten” month in August.

There are many things that can be done to help prepare children for kindergarten, including working with your child on basic academic skills such as writing his/her name and reading letters; teaching critical thinking skills by encouraging them to ask “Why” questions; working on arts-and-crafts projects to get your child more comfortable using scissors, markers and other supplies he/she will see plenty of in kindergarten; and making shopping for school supplies a fun experience by letting your child make some choices of their own, like the color of his/her backpack or pencil case.

At The Jim Henson Company, the immersive and compelling DINOSAUR TRAIN website at www.pbskids.org/dinosaurtrain offers parents (and teachers) a wealth of activities to encourage basic scientific thinking skills for pre-school children.
Here are a few examples:
  • Help your child practice the letters of the alphabet while learning about the diversity of dinosaurs that once lived on Earth with the “Dinosaurs A – Z song.” Basic supplies needed include 26 index cards (4x6 or 5x7), a thick marker, crayons, lyrics to "Dinosaurs A to Z" song and the Printable page of all 26 dinosaurs in the song. For instructions go to: http://www.pbs.org/parents/dinosaurtrain/activities/handson/dinosaursatoz.html
  • Help your child learn some basic insect anatomy by creating a model of a dragonfly, and learn that some animals seen in the world today also lived at the time of the dinosaurs. Basic supplies needed include construction paper, wooden popsicle sticks, strong tape, pipe cleaners, colored markers, glue and glitter (and photographs of real dragonflies from books or the Internet). For instructions go to: http://www.pbs.org/parents/dinosaurtrain/activities/handson/dragonfly.html

DINOSAUR TRAIN embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains. This top-rated, award-winning series, which airs on PBS KIDS®, encourages basic scientific thinking skills as the audience learns about life science, natural history and paleontology. The stars of DINOSAUR TRAIN are Buddy, an adorable preschool age Tyrannosaurus rex, and his adoptive Pteranodon family who board the DINOSAUR TRAIN to embark on whimsical journeys to prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans.

Bunny girl loves Sid the Science Kid and recently she has been full of questions about the weather, so it was perfect timing when we received the Weather Kid Sid dvd for review.

If you haven't watched the Sid the Science Kid shows your preschooler is missing out on one of the cutest ways he/she can learn about 'everything and anything'. Sid and his friends spend each episode learning about something new.

  • The importance of the sun, protecting one's self from the glaring rays and more in Special Sunny Dad Day
  • Changing weather temperatures in Sid's Holiday Adventure and
  • Whoosh! The wind and its effects in The Wind Did It.
Each episode also includes fun upbeat songs, great lessons with Teacher Susie and laughs with the gang's 'Good Laughternoon' segment.

I haven't, personally, seen an episode I don't like yet and would definitely recommend Sid the Science Kid to any preschool aged child who loves music and fun learning!

CLOSED: Sid the Talkin' Science Kid Plush (R&G)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Bunny girl has a few tele-programs she loves watching. One hot favorite is PBS Kids educational show Sid the Science Kid.

Produced by Jim Henson Productions and KCET, this inquisitive but very lovable preschooler takes the viewer to his preschool class every morning and introduces the viewer to the whens, whats and whys there are in the surroundings and the world.

I remember when Bunny girl was initially a little apprehensive about going to Preschool for the first time, we watched a lot of Sid on PBS as I wanted her to see how her Preschool class could be as much fun as teacher Susie's class. By God's Grace her teachers are just as awesome as teacher Susie!!

Hence I was obviously excited to show Bunny girl the new Playskool Talking Plush replica of Sid when it arrived.

Each time you press cuddly Sid's belly he shouts out one of six of his famous phrases and I think by far our favorite is his "Sid the Science kid" echo.

Sid the Talkin' Science Kid Plush is suggested for children aged 3 years and older. Bunny girl is presently 3 years, 9 months old and though she had fun pressing Sid's belly for quite a while, I personally felt she was perhaps a little grown up for the talking plush.

What did grab her attention the longest though, was Sid's Sticker Chart episode on dvd that comes with the Plush. (Great idea to add the dvd as well!)

If you haven't introduced your preschooler to the Sid the Science kid series yet you're missing out on a fun world of learning...do check your local listings and tune in to have your child meet and learn with Sid and his buddies.
