CLOSED: Hear My Prayer- Lee Bennet Hopkins ( A Zonderkidz Giveaway)- 2 winners

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

If you're trying to introduce your child to prayer then Hear My Prayer by Lee Bennet Hopkins will be that gentle encourager into the same.

The Buzz:

Hear My Prayer is a compilation of 12 prayers that include a prayer at suppertime, a prayer for a child's parents and a prayer for when the day is done.

The book features colorful and vibrant illustrations by Gigi Moore.

E.B. Mommy's Report:

I liked the simplicity of the book and the conversational tone of each prayer. Personally though, we like to encourage Bunny girl to pray her own words out during prayer time. So though we have not used Hear My Prayer during our own family prayer times, we have read through the same during our "Mama, please read to me" times.

CLOSED: The Lord's Prayer - Rick Warren ( A Zonderkidz Giveaway)- 2 winners

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

All of us have heard the Lord's Prayer being recited at home and in our churches or even in our schools. Some of us were even taught to memorize it as children but not all of us really understand the wealth of all that lies in this beautiful prayer.

Rick Warren's book The Lord's Prayer seeks to help a child as young as 4 years in age learn what each line of the prayer means, in simple words.

The Buzz:

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

The Lord’s Prayer pulses with new life through the exquisite illustrations of award-winning artist Richard Jesse Watson, and simple, yet insightful commentary by bestselling author Rick Warren.

Watson’s use of vibrant color and detailed imagery beautifully captures the essence of Jesus’ words to his disciples, and Warren’s thoughtful words help make the King James Version of this prayer come alive for readers young and old.

E.B. Mommy's Report:

I still remember the moment I received the revelation of what the Lord's Prayer meant in essence. I was still in college and was taking an early morning walk with my Guardian (and Spiritual Father) when he explained each sentence of the Prayer in a way I've never heard it being explained before. I still remember every bit of that "morning teaching" and have been so blessed by what I learned. It's ironic that I went through my entire childhood, Sunday School and church life till then just rambling out the words without understanding what it all really meant.

I thank God for men like Rick Warren who have a heart not just for things of God but a heart to share what God has put into their hearts in a simple manner for little children to absorb easily. Children are such avid learners. I could see Bunny girl drinking up every word that was being read to her by Hubby. I especially liked the way the book rolls out with the Lord's Prayer, sentence by sentence on each page (with regal and bold illustrations, I must add) and then ends with a brief explanation on what each line means.

I would recommend this 40 paged, hardbound book as a 'family must' in your child's library.
(Yes, this is one of those "investment" books.)

CLOSED: Zonderkidz Christmas Prize Pack (+Christmas Carnival Giveaway #14)

This post is a 'Christmas Carnival' feature...The Carnival of Giveaways (or should I say Christmas prezzies?) on Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports from November 1- December 5 2010.
For a list of all the live giveaways visit 'The Christmas Carnival Center'

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

This Christmas, snuggle up on the couch with these three Christmas features from Zonderkidz...

The Berenstain Bears and the Joy of Giving
Book Brief:

In The Berenstain Bears and The Joy of Giving Brother and Sister Bear can’t wait for Christmas and all the presents they’ll open. But during the Christmas Eve pageant, something special happens! The Bear cubs learn a very valuable lesson about the joy of giving to others.
(Suggested age range:4-6)

This is a lovely book to bring into focus the importance of giving amidst all the receiving, during all the Christmas excitement and fun.
I love reading the Berenstain Bears to Bunny girl and she loves all three books she owns so far. We can't wait to add this one to her collection this Christmas as a symbolic reminder of the 30 day giving challenge we've taken up as a family.

The Three Wise Guys Book Brief:

It’s time for the Christmas pageant again, which means it’s time to hide behind a chair and hope the Sunday school teacher doesn’t pick you to be Joseph. Laugh your way through all of the pageantry in this Pageant as Mike Thaler tells the story of Christmas in a way only a kid—or anyone who was once a kid—can understand.
(Suggested age range:6-9)

You really should be atleast six to enjoy this book. The humor entwined in the child's narrative of the Nativity Play is what makes this book what it is. We've saved this book for Bunny girl's best friend who I know will be in splits when he reads this with his Mommy. (This book makes enjoyable reading even for an adult.)

17 Christmases Book Brief:

Journey all over America in this delightful full-color Christmas picture book written by award-winning author, Dandi Daley Mackall. 17 Christmases is a wonderful story about a young child’s Christmas road trip to see family and friends from Alaska to Maine and everywhere in between.
(Suggested age range:4-7)

This is such a cute book. The little boy travels to 17 States and gets to, therefore, celebrate 17 Christmases in each State! Finally they get back home to Kentucky and while he's reminiscing on all 17 Christmases, he remembers the 'Reason for the Season' and thanks God for Jesus and everyone in his family.

CLOSED: 'I CAN READ' with Zonderkidz (+12 Book Pack Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

I love Zonderkidz and love how they have books to engage even the youngest of all readers. Best of all, they're all Word based. What a wonderful way to introduce young children to the Word of God and at the same time encourage a love for books.

We're trying to get Bunny girl to identify small words through Phonic sounds and Alphabet identification, we haven't got it nailed yet but we'll get there soon. Zonderkidz has a lovely collection of about 128 'I CAN READ' books that are suited for beginning readers, developing readers and confident readers.

We were sent a 12 Book Pack of 'I CAN READ' books, appropriate to Bunny girl's age.
4 of the 12 books were Bible story based while the other 8 were 'lesson themed' by story.

  • Jesus Feeds the People is from 'The Beginner's Bible' series and introduces the young reader to the story of Jesus' miracle of feeding the hungry multitudes with the offered 5 loaves and 2 fish.
  • Moses, God's Brave Servant is a 'developing reader' book that summarizes the story of Moses as a baby to him leading the Israelites across the Red Sea, after God sends the different plagues....all in 32 pages.
  • Noah and God's Great Promise is another 'developing reader' book that narrates the story of Noah's obedience to God's command to build an ark and fill the same with 2 of every animal. It centers around God's Faithfulness to His Promise to Noah, to keep him and the inhabitants of the ark safe.
  • Jesus, God's Only Son highlights the betrayal, arrest, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of God. This, too, is a 'developing reader' book.
I personally didn't like the illustrations in the 'developing reader' books as I felt they looked more like comic strip characters that may have been better suited for older kids than 4-6 year olds.

Kathy Jo Wargin's Frank and Beans 'Reading With Help' series are about a little boy called Frank and his pet dog Beans. Each story has a lesson tied in for the young reader to learn.

The Lessons we learnt from :

Our favorite of all 12 books, were these 4 books from the Little David series.

We love Crystal Bowman. Bunny girl's favorite book by her is 'Mommy May I Hug the Fish' and we do the daily devotions from the One Year Book of Daily Devotions for Preschoolers.

The 'Beginning Reader' series are about David, the smallest mouse in the mouse family. Each story, again, has a special lesson that is woven into the storyline.

Little David's brave day runs along the lines of the David and Goliath story, only here Goliath is a big old pussy cat.David trusts God and bravely chases Goliath away.
(Lesson in Goodness)

Little David and his best friend is about little David and his best buddy, the King's son Jon. Both little mice enjoy each other's company but after a while need to go separate ways because of the King's jealous displeasure towards little David.
(Lesson in God's Constancy)

Little David sings for the King narrates David's sadness in not being able to keep up with all that his big brothers do but one day only little David is able to fit the role of cheering up the king because a special gift God has blessed him with.
(Lesson in trusting God for big things)

Little David's big heart parallels the story of young David being chosen as the future King of Israel. In this story too there is a jealous king but little David the mouse chooses to honor the king and sends with his brothers a special present for the king even though he was purposely not invited to the king's party.
(Lesson in trusting God)

These books will not only bless the young reader's heart but also touch every grown up reading along with him/her.

CLOSED: All Aboard with Noah (+ Book Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Ask any little child and he/she will say his/her favorite Bible story is that of Noah. There's just so much excitement with all those animals getting into the huge ark that the story never fails to win over every little heart.

All Aboard with Noah is a part of the Beginner's Bible series and tells the story of that long boat ride in the best way possible.....with lift up flaps!! (My 4 year old still loves lift up flaps and secretly I love flipping them over when no-one's looking too!)

This hard bound book holds 50 lift up flaps and 5 fun activities for your child to participate in while listening to the story. He/she will help you find colors, find what each animal likes to eat, identify the sounds that can be heard, match the animals to their pairs and find new homes for the disembarking animals.

I would say this book is best suited for kids in the 2-4 age range as the flaps will grab their attention and the bright colors and the short snippets from the story will keep them engaged but at the same time teach them this age old Bible classic.

(Thanks to Zonderkidz we received this book to review.)

CLOSED: A Job Well Done: The Berenstain Bears (+ Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

There are a handful of Christian Publishers for kids that I love and one of them is Zonderkidz. God willing, I will have more fun Zonderkidz products featured and yes, we will have giveaways too!

For today's feature, we have the newest Berenstain Bears book- A Job Well Done.

In A Job Well Done, Mama and Papa Bear rally the three little ones- Brother , Sister and Honey- to help them spring clean the family tree house. What follows is enthusiasm and zeal to get to the task at hand but after a while Brother and Sister Bear do what all our little ones generally do......get distracted while cleaning up!

Papa Bear stumbles onto some fun play outdoors and gently corrects them and shows them how the Bible teaches us that it's important to 'work hard and get the job done'

This 32 paged book is targeted towards the 4-7 year old age group but I have read Berenstain Bear books to Bunny girl even when she was 3 and a half years old. If your child loves books and can sit through a long-ish story then this book will be a great teaching aid, like most of the other Berenstain Bear books. (Plus they're very affordable)
