CLOSED: General Mills Goes Retro....4th Year In A Row (+ Retro Pack + Target Gift Card Giveaway)- 5 winners

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

For the fourth year in a row, by popular demand....

General Mills' Cereals are back with a "blast from the past" with "Retro" packaging, designs and cartoons from the 50s, 60s and 70s, carried exclusively in Target stores nationwide till mid March 2011 or till supplies last.

The Buzz:

This year, the packaging was chosen based on a national survey conducted by General Mills, which asked consumers to pick their favorite Retro package designs. The top packages chosen include Cheerios (1956), Trix (1968), Honey Nut Cheerios (1984), Cinnamon Toast Crunch (1984) and Lucky Charms (1989).

Consumers were also asked to share thoughts and opinions about their childhood memories of breakfast cereals, including favorite characters, promotions, prizes, cartoon characters and shows. Many identified rings, submarines and cars as favorite promotions on cereal packages; most preferred prizes over games and favorite Big G cereal characters were Lucky the Leprechaun, the Trix Rabbit and Buzz from Honey Nut Cheerios.

The package promotion on each of the cereal boxes features Retro cartoons. For more "Retro" fun, consumers can go to www.grocerysavvy.com and view some cartoons from the past, while enjoying a fun morning with family and friends over breakfast.

Some Retro Fun Facts:

Did you know that in....

1956, Gas was only 22 cents a gallon? (Wow! Time machine lets go!!)

In 1968, Mattel's Hot Wheels Toy Cars were first introduced. (Are they really that old?)

In 1984, stonewashed jeans, the Apple Macintosh and the Space Shuttle Discovery, all did their maiden launches!

In 1989, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down.

And in all those "landmark" years, General Mills cereals was a breakfast favorite in many homes....and continues to be a favorite today!

As a hard core Honey Nut Cheerios lover, I have to confess "Retro" or not, the little Buzz will always have my Mommy vote.

Come on! With 100% natural grain oats and oat bran, perfectly coated with just the right amount of honey, each crispy Cheerio is low in fat, delicious and healthy, healthy, healthy!

A total win-win 'anytime of the day' EB Mommy 'munchie'. Oh yeah!

CLOSED: Chex Party Mix Snacks...Party Winners! (+ Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

A new year means a whole year of family gatherings, friend get-togethers and parties for the kids. Well, thanks to General Mills' crunchy Chex products, you can have yummy yet healthy, whole grain centered snacks that will have all your guests reaching out for one serving after the other!

Need a little inspiration?
Hop on over to the Chex Party Mix Recipe site to whip up quick bowls of deliciousness! Most of the recipes can be made in the microwave in just 15 minutes and call for ingredients that you will find lying around in the pantry.

Take for instance this recipe for Chex Muddy Buddies.

Ingredients

9 cups Rice Chex, Corn Chex or Chocolate Chex cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Preparation Directions

1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Substitution

Peanut butter and chocolate are a favorite flavor combo, but peanut butter lovers can substitute peanut butter chips for the chocolate chips to intensify that flavor.

Now isn't this easy?
I know I will be considering this for Bunny girl's next school party. I'm sure it will be a preschooler party snack winner!

Before you hop away to bookmark a few recipes, don't forget to enter to win a Chex Party Mix pack

Win it:

CLOSED: A Community of Hope...Pink Together (+Giveaway Pack)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

When you go through life's battles, hope is what gives you the grace to take those heavy steps ahead.

This month symbolically reminds us of many who fight the clutches of breast cancer and encourages us to help make a difference in the research that is being conducted to help detect this cancer early and fight it till its rendered powerless.

Even as I type this out, many women are battling this at this very moment and nothing makes the fight easy but there is something that can help them move forward......loving support! Thanks to the wonders of technology today, not only can they enjoy the support of their family and friends around them but also the virtual support of over 680,000 breast cancer survivors on the growing, loving community of hope... Pink Together.

On the site, you can also read the empowering stories from the 2010 Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, five incredible individuals whose courage in the face of breast cancer serves as a source of inspiration:

* Ebony Steele – This three-year survivor serves as a National Ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Circle of Promise, an effort focused on fostering breast cancer awareness, support, empowerment and action among African American women.

* Eli Arroyo-Allen – A two-year survivor, Eli is the founder of the Loving Life/Amando La Vida program supporting Latina women with breast cancer.

* Ginger Johnson – A mother and four-year survivor, Ginger is the director of Happy Chemo!, whose mission is to bring happiness to those dealing with the negative effects of chemotherapy and cancer.

* Libby Pomroy – Libby is a two-time, 15-year survivor and a General Mills employee.

* Nicole Vazquez – This three-year survivor is a Komen breast cancer activist in the Latino community.

These Survivor Ambassadors and their empowering stories will also be featured on the Pink Together Facebook fan page and YouTube channel, and on special pink packaging on General Mills’ brands like Cheerios Cereal, Green Giant Frozen Vegetables and Nature Valley Granola Bars.

If you or someone you know would make a great candidate for next year’s Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, please visit PinkTogether.com for more information.

You can help too.

To encourage personal connections in the online community, General Mills will donate $1 (up to $20,000) to Komen for each inspirational story submitted, encouraging comment posted, or virtual flower of support sent on PinkTogether.com, and for each shared message of hope posted on Pink Together's Facebook fan page during the month of October (up to $5,000).
This $25,000 is in addition to the $2 million donation General Mills has committed to Komen to advance breast cancer research and support education and community outreach projects.

Will you help make a difference?

Remember....Individually we are strong, but together we are stronger.

CLOSED: Sam's Club Sunny Day Snacks with Nature Valley (+Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Looking for a healthy 'munchie' to sustain your family on those trips out to the park, the beach or even just a trek out into the Nature Reserves? Well General Mills has just the snack you need with their Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Granola bars.

In collaboration with My Blog Spark, General Mills sent us a Sam's Club Sunny Day Snacks pack that held
  • A stock up sized pack of Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Granola bars (Fruit & Nut) and
  • A 25$ Sam's Club gift card

These 100% natural snack bars, made up of rolled oats are 25% richer in almonds, peanuts, raisins and cranberries and the wrappers do state that they hold no artificial preservatives whatsoever plus each bar is just 140 calories in whole.

Woo-hoo...Bring It On!

This is a hot favorite in our home. Hubby loves it, Mommy loves it and I relish every single morsel of it greedily. (I have to add that this is such a wholesome healthy 'munchie' especially when I've wanted to chomp on something right after nursing Bunny Boo.) The only one we're yet to convince to eat it happily is Bunny girl. The dried fruits seem to keep her away from taking a bite of the chewy bar!

If you frequent your local Sam's Club for deals on your groceries, you really should take a walk down to the snack aisle and pick up the stock up sized pack of Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Granola bars they carry.

Win it:

One reader will have the opportunity to win a Sam's Club Sunny Day Snacks pack that will include

Healthy breakfast habits (General Mills Review)

I've heard many people say they're in rush to take their kids to school, so just pack them a snack and a big, heavy lunch to tide the little ones through the day. I know many adults who skip breakfast, eat a heavy lunch at work and an even heavier dinner once they get back home.... Two scenarios that scream out 'UNHEALTHY' all the way!

Growing up, I thought my Mom was unfair to stuff us with a solid breakfast, juice/milk and then send us to school. Today as a Mom, I see myself making sure Bunny girl eats an equivalently nutritious and healthy a breakfast as possible....yes, I see my Mom in myself now!

It's important our children and selves begin the day with a good substance filled meal for more efficiency in performance and activity through the day. Breakfast is crucial and yes with time seeming limited on our hands half the time, a quick and easy way to do this is to feed your child and yourself with a bowl of cereal and milk.

Why cereal?

Cereals are...
  • Rich in important vitamins, minerals and nutrients like vitamin A, B6, iron, niacin and zinc
  • Wholesome with atleast 8 grams of whole grains per serving
  • A healthier breakfast alternative with less fat and less cholesterol resulting in healthier body weight and lower Body Mass Index Measures

Now everyone knows Bunny girl and I have a weakness for General Mills' cereal- Cheerios (Honey Nut and Multi-grain Cheerios being our favorites!).

Did you know that General Mills has recently committed to taking an additional step towards providing us with a healthier bowl of cereal by....
  • Reducing the sugar levels to single digit grams per serving and
  • Increasing key nutrients like calcium, vitamin D and whole grain? (Over 20 General Mills cereals today confirm providing 16 grams of whole grain per cereal serving.)
Lets change things today if our breakfast habits are not in line with the 'Healthy Factor' and here's an incentive to start buying those boxes of cereal.....you can sign up for a chance to win a free box of Cheerios. By signing up, you will receive 4$ in Cheerios coupons, delivered to your email inbox. You can also print off other General Mills cereal coupons from this link.

** EBMR Disclaimer:
In collaboration with this awareness campaign I have received 4 coupons for free cereal and the published information from General Mills through My Blog Spark. This review has not been monetarily compensated.**

'Movie Moment' (Festive R&G)

Well General Mills has done it again!! Have you checked out their latest promotion?
Here's what you need to do:
(Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cinammon Toast Crunch, Trix or Reese's Puffs)

and enjoy delicious breakfast bowls of these crunchy yummies.
  • Now once you finish all your cereal, DON'T throw those cereal boxes away!!! Each box has a special code hidden inside so make sure you save those codes.
  • As soon as you have atleast 2 codes (you will get a code per box), go to the E-Movies site and enter both the codes and....
  • Ta-dah!!! You will get to print a certificate for a free movie ticket (upto the value of 12 US$) OR you can opt to receive an email with your certificate for the free ticket.
Now is that an offer or what? You need to eat cereal anyways right? So why not stick to Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cinammon Toast Crunch, Trix or Reese's Puffs for the next few weeks. I'm sure you will be able to save up enough codes to take your immediate family and maybe a few friends or the kids grandparents out for a family movie soon! You can even save all the codes and redeem them to watch one of the new Christmas themed releases that will soon be out.

I'm really not sure when this offer will actually end BUT the website does say that the last day to enter the codes online is June 30 2010 (long way away!) and tickets (not the certificates) will expire 60 days from the date they are issued online.
You can check which theaters closest to you are participating right here.

In collaboration with this campaign, My Blog Spark and General Mills sent me a 'Movie Moment pack':
  • 4 movie e-cash certificates (valued at 12 US$ per ticket) and
  • A coupon for a free box of General Mills cereal (3 guesses as to which box I'll buy!!)
I can't wait to go to the movies. My Mommy comes to visit us for 2 weeks next week so we've planned to make it a family movie evening. I hope our local theater has a nice family movie playing that Bunny girl will enjoy.

What can you win?

Err....lets see......mmmm.....how about an identical 'Movie Moment' Pack? (Woo-hoo!!)

Here's how you can win it:

Leave a comment telling me which movie you'd really like to go see with your little one(s).
