CLOSED: General Mills Goes Retro....4th Year In A Row (+ Retro Pack + Target Gift Card Giveaway)- 5 winners

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

For the fourth year in a row, by popular demand....

General Mills' Cereals are back with a "blast from the past" with "Retro" packaging, designs and cartoons from the 50s, 60s and 70s, carried exclusively in Target stores nationwide till mid March 2011 or till supplies last.

The Buzz:

This year, the packaging was chosen based on a national survey conducted by General Mills, which asked consumers to pick their favorite Retro package designs. The top packages chosen include Cheerios (1956), Trix (1968), Honey Nut Cheerios (1984), Cinnamon Toast Crunch (1984) and Lucky Charms (1989).

Consumers were also asked to share thoughts and opinions about their childhood memories of breakfast cereals, including favorite characters, promotions, prizes, cartoon characters and shows. Many identified rings, submarines and cars as favorite promotions on cereal packages; most preferred prizes over games and favorite Big G cereal characters were Lucky the Leprechaun, the Trix Rabbit and Buzz from Honey Nut Cheerios.

The package promotion on each of the cereal boxes features Retro cartoons. For more "Retro" fun, consumers can go to www.grocerysavvy.com and view some cartoons from the past, while enjoying a fun morning with family and friends over breakfast.

Some Retro Fun Facts:

Did you know that in....

1956, Gas was only 22 cents a gallon? (Wow! Time machine lets go!!)

In 1968, Mattel's Hot Wheels Toy Cars were first introduced. (Are they really that old?)

In 1984, stonewashed jeans, the Apple Macintosh and the Space Shuttle Discovery, all did their maiden launches!

In 1989, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down.

And in all those "landmark" years, General Mills cereals was a breakfast favorite in many homes....and continues to be a favorite today!

As a hard core Honey Nut Cheerios lover, I have to confess "Retro" or not, the little Buzz will always have my Mommy vote.

Come on! With 100% natural grain oats and oat bran, perfectly coated with just the right amount of honey, each crispy Cheerio is low in fat, delicious and healthy, healthy, healthy!

A total win-win 'anytime of the day' EB Mommy 'munchie'. Oh yeah!

CLOSED:Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories Review and Giveaway

Want to hear more great stuff General Mills is doing through their Cheerios cereals?...

In just the last 8 years alone, Cheerios has placed over 40 million children's books upon the breakfast table....How? By placing the little books inside your little one's favorite cereal box- Cheerios! On top of this great venture, they have also donated 3.2 million dollars to First Book, their non profit partner that places books in the hands of little kids from low income families. (Way to go Cheerios...and Hats off to you General Mills!!!)

This month, the 'parents read with your child' campaign 'Spoonfuls of Stories' kicks off again. The goal this year is to put 6 million books in the homes of little kids. This year's set includes 5 books published by Simon & Schuster's Children's Publishing, printed both in English and Spanish.

Here's a brief on each of the titles, as provided by My Blog Spark:
  • Junkyard Fort, written by Jon Scieszka, and illustrated by David Shannon, Loren Long and Dave Gordon: Join Gabriella, Jack, Melvin, Ted, Lucy and the other Trucktown characters as they make their own fort, using things found in the junkyard. Ages 4-8.
  • Tea for Ruby, written by The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser: Wherever Ruby goes, a bit of disaster seems to follow. But one sunny morning, things change when the postman brings Ruby an amazing invitation: would she like to have tea with the Queen? Ruby needs to polish her manners, and quickly. Ages 4-8.
  • Sleepyhead, written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by John Segal: In this rhythmic bedtime story, a cat is the parent and a teddy bear is the child who doesn't want to go to bed. All ready for bed with teeth brushed and story read, Sleepyhead teddy tries anything to prolong his bedtime; books and his quilt provide ample fodder for his imagination. Ages 3-7.
  • Ballyhoo Bay, written by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Derek Anderson: Mira Bella, an artist who teaches painting and sculpture, loves Ballyhoo Bay and what it offers: sun, sea, sand, and sky. But one gray day a billboard arrives, announcing an impending development that would take all the fun out of the place. Read along to see if Mira Bella and her art can save the day and Ballyhoo Bay! Ages 4-8.
  • What´s Under the Bed?, written and illustrated by Joe Fenton: Young Fred cannot stop worrying about the scary creature that might be hiding beneath his bed. Finally summoning the courage to peer under his bed, Fred, with his cumbersome glasses, sees that the only thing there is Ted, his friendly Teddy Bear! Ages 3-7.
If you visit the Spoonfuls of Stories site, you will see that voting to choose the book for 2010 has begun. I'm planning to put in my vote, though it will be hard. All 13 contenders look like great reads for Bunny girl. It will be fun to see if my choice comes in our Cheerios box next year. (Remember, you can vote once every day)

In collaboration with this campaign, My Blog Spark and Cheerios sent me an exciting Spoonfuls of Stories gift pack. For a Cheerios and book lover, this gift pack is SWEEEEET!!!
