CLOSED:The One Year 'Devotions for Preschoolers 2' (R&G)

I love devotionals and was excited to learn that Tyndale had a January 2010 release which was just right for Bunny girl. It's a lovely collection by Carla Barnhill titled The One Year 'Devotions for Preschoolers 2'.

The daily devotions are simple and clearly outlined for a young child to understand. It helps teach little ones the difference between right and wrong and assure them of God's comforting Presence in their lives. I love the devotions that particularly deal with a child's position in Christ-this is beautifully explained, encouraging and easily understandable.

The devotions are illustrated by Elena Kucharik. I love Elena's art, this isn't the first time I've come across her work. She captures the gist of each day's devotion in a precious way. For instance, for the February 13th devotion titled "Have No Fear!', she has an apt little picture of 2 little girls- the older one's helping the younger one develop a balance on her bicycle minus the training wheels. Precious!

I have this book all wrapped up and placed under the tree to give Bunny girl along with her other Christmas gifts. Christian books are such an investment and we've always tried to bless her with a special book each Christmas and this year, without a doubt, it's this one!

The One Year 'Devotions for Preschoolers 2' book is a 384 paged hardcover book that will be released in January 2010 and retails for 14.99 US$. (Check the links on the left hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)
Amazon has this on sale for 10.79 US$....definitely a worthwhile buy for the little ones you know.

CLOSED:101 simple and thoughtful ways to 'Give this Christmas away' (Festive R&G)

Christmas should be more than just receiving presents....it should be more about the blessing in giving. God gave us His Only Son thereby showing us that we really should give. Make this Christmas different...not as materialistic as the others.

Need a little help?...Pick up Matthew West's book to get 101 ideas on how you can 'Give this Christmas Away'. This little hardbound book is filled with some great tips that you can turn into mini family projects with the kids and Hubby/Wifey. Some of my favorite suggestions from Matthew include
  • Buying a cup of coffee for a stranger
  • Volunteering at a homeless shelter AFTER Christmas
  • Help those who help others and
  • Set an extra plate at dinner time.
  • Throw a birthday party......for Jesus. (Bring the focus back to Jesus being the Reason for the Season!)
Each suggestion is followed by a small description of how you give Christmas away by following that idea. At the end of each page, a related verse from the Bible is printed to encourage you that yes...it's in the Word of God too!

The book makes quick reading and by putting into practice even some of what you read, you just may be starting some special new family Christmas traditions that will go a long way into molding not just you but also every member in your family.

101 simple and thoughtful ways to 'Give this Christmas away' was only released last month and was inspired by the new Mathew West song from Veggie Tales' Saint Nicholas. It retails for 9.99 US$. (Check the links on the left hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)

CLOSED:The One Year 'Did You Know' Devotions 2 (Festive R&G)

Do you know the best way to tell time on a ship?....
Do you know how LEGOS got their name?....
Can a cow cure you?....
Can you read by the light of a beetle?....

Ok, now be honest...do you know the answers of even one of these questions? I didn't but I do know where you can find the answers... in The One Year 'Did You Know' Devotions 2 book by Nancy S. Hill.

The One Year 'Did You Know' Devotions 2 book is filled with 365 questions, their answers and a Christian outlook for each segment. Each day even has a related Bible verse to go with it....which is so cute...for instance, October 19th's featured question is "Where did the snorkel come from?" and the corresponding verse is Psalm 104:30 - "When You give them Your Breath, life is created"

This is a lovely little devotional published for kids in the "Why, When, What" age group of 6-10 years. (I have to admit that the devotional made great reading even for adult ol' me! Some great information in there.)

The One Year 'Did You Know' Devotions 2 book is a 416 paged softcover book that was released in September 2009 and retails for 13.99 US$. (Check the links on the left hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)

CLOSED:'Big Thoughts for little people' Book Review and Giveaway

'Big Thoughts for little people' is an A-Z book of Christian foundational values that you would want your child to have and elements that your child should be aware of.

The late Dr. Kenneth Taylor, founder of the Tyndale House Publishers and author of this book, has identified 26 values/elements (that include behaving, singing, unselfishness and politeness) and has placed them out in alphabetical order.

That's not all...under each value/element, Dr. Taylor has listed out 3 questions for a parent to ask their child, thereby encouraging the child to think and put into perspective the value/element just learnt. Each page finally ends with an easy to memorize verse from the Bible that relates to the value/element highlighted on that page.

Simple but comprehensive. I think this is a great Christian foundational book for preschoolers and young school goers.

The illustrator-Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic- has also taken the time to place little ladybugs on each page. As you progress through the book with your little one, 'finding the ladybugs' becomes a little game to play before the next alphabet!

'Big Thoughts for little people' is a 64 paged hardcover book that will be released in November 2009 and will retail for 14.99 US$. (Check the links on the left hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)

My Story Bible-Review and Giveaway

'My Story Bible' is a lovely collection of 66 loved Bible stories written by Jan Godfrey and illustrated by Paola Bertolini Gradina.

This is a good book to introduce a child to popular Bible stories. All the kiddies favorites are in here like David and Goliath, Joseph and his colorful coat, Jonah and the big fish, Ruth and several stories on the miracles of Jesus.

Each story is short but the message is beautifully conveyed to the young reader/listener.

This is the 4th Jan Godfrey book Bunny girl and I have read together. Not all people can write in a language that is simple for a little child to understand but yet bring forth the complete essence of a story. Jan is one person who has been blessed with the ability to do this and that's why I love her books.

'My Story Bible' has been published by Anno Domini Publishing and retails at 12.99 US$. This is a 144 paged hardcover book and a great gift to give any young child on his/her birthday or for Christmas. (Check the links on the right hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)
