Thanksgiving Food Baskets (Day 12 of Giving)

30-Day Giving Challenge

We're on Day 12 of the 30 Day Giving Challenge and I pray the excitement of GIVING will be kindled in more hearts and in more creative ways as we only have less than 18 days left in the challenge.

I have noticed how God has been speaking to our family in so many different ways. This morning as I was driving home after dropping Bunny girl to preschool, our local Christian Radio Station had a short encouragement on....yes you guess it.....Giving!
The statement that jumped out to me was this-
"When you are obedient to God's call to give, He will use you in extraordinary ways to bless someone in a way you never thought He could."
Isn't that awesome?

Today I wanted to share with you a project many Methodist Churches around the country have taken up called the Thanksgiving Food Baskets project.(I'm not sure if this is also happening in other churches too)

Here's what happens.....people donate a can of mixed vegetables, a can of kernelled corn, a small bag of rice, a container of oil, a pack of sugar etc. (Note: You can donate as much as you want...based on what God puts into your heart) and the same is packed into baskets that are delivered to needy families to allow them to cook up a Thanksgiving Meal to share with their families on Thanksgiving Day. Isn't that nice?

To make this activity meaningful, sit down with your child(ren) and ask him/her/them to pray over the cans and staples you will be donating. It is a humbling experience especially as this reminds us of how blessed we are to be able to eat three meals a day.

Thank for this message on giving thanks and on how we can make a difference to a family in need. Our family volunteers once a month at our Food Share Food Ministry at church, we feed 100 families each month. The kids understand how important it is to help out unloading the trucks and sorting out the food and other items we purchase from the food banks. If we did not volunteer the program would not be there.

There really ARE some big hearted people in the world...often it just takes someone with an idea and someone to help manage a project
I was the lucky recipient for a couple years when I was a VERY poor single mom who had left a very volatile situation. Baskets and also a few toys for my kids were so appreciated! Now I am trying to win items to give to our church special star project...you pick a person's star off the tree and try to make some of their wishes come true. Hope I can accomodate. There are kids, teens, moms and dads, and elderly. EVERYONE needs to know they are loved and cared for...even if not with things but with time!

Just snuck in to read up on this and will backtrack to read more. LOVE this!
