CLOSED: Select Comfort....for your 'bump' (+ Giveaway)

If you have been pregnant any time in your life, you will know how uncomfortable sleeping can get as you progress into your second trimester. I have read that blood circulation is the best for baby and you when you sleep on your left side. I did that with Bunny girl and I do that with Bunny Boo now.

To ensure I sleep comfortably I also sleep with a pillow between my legs, one to cushion my 'bump' and the other behind my back for support....to put it simply I'm a pillow snowman! This helps with the occasional back aches but is NO FUN when the pillow behind my back falls out in the middle of the night. I refuse to get up lest I lose my 'comfort position'. Have you faced a similar predicament Expectant Mommies?

Well just about 2 weeks ago, Select Comfort, a 23 year old bedding retailer from Minneapolis sent me a 'pillow that stays in place' solution......their Sleep Number Maternity Pillow.

The Sleep Number Maternity Pillow is actually two kidney shaped fluffed pillows

that can be attached to each other with the velcro straps on the flaps.

You can adjust the distance of the pillows based on your comfort and then just snuggle in for a comfortable, supported night's sleep.

The Sleep Number Maternity Pillow is 100% cotton with stain resisting Teflon and comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

I love that I'm not minus a pillow behind my back halfway through the night and the soft 'cushiony' feel surround my bump is comforting. (Note: I still do sleep with a pillow between my legs as I somehow feel this gives me additional comfort. )

Buy it:

A Sleep Number Maternity Pillow originally costs 39.99 US$ but till 2/28/2010 you can buy the same online for a discounted price of 27.99 US$.

Win it:

One reader will have the opportunity to win a Sleep Number Maternity Pillow.

Ahhh, I'd love to win this!!

By the time a couple has been together 20 years, they’ll have spent over 50,000 hours (roughly 6 – 7 years) together in their bed.

WOW!! LOL.

I learned that if you are sleep deprived at the time of your flu vaccination, it could take 2 – 3 times longer for your immune system to respond to the vaccine to build up the defenses needed to fend off the illness.

I learned " New scientific investigation confirms that our ability to handle stress is directly tied to the quality and quantity of our sleep. We’ve long known that inadequate sleep can lead to all sorts of health issues including high blood pressure, a weakened immune system—even obesity and diabetes"

thanks for the chance

I like this sleep tip: If your partner's snoring keeps you up at night, try going to bed first and have your partner come to bed late. This will allow you to fall into deep sleep while your surrounding are quiet.

Does your partner bring work to bed, or prefer to fall asleep to the sound of the television each night? Sleep experts suggest using the bedroom only for relaxing rituals and sleep. Create a bedroom sanctuary conducive to these activities, leaving the computers and televisions for other rooms in the house.

I learned that if you toss and turn a lot (which I do!) I need to re-evaluate both my mattress and my pillow. I never really thought of that... I always assumed I just had a hard time sleeping through the night!

One tip is that if you sleep on an air-chamber bed you could spend approximately fifteen minutes less time in bed, but still feel more rested.

With daylight savings coming up I learned that One extra hour of sleep can decrease the chance of artery calcification (clogged arteries) by 33%. This was the key discovery in a University of Chicago study that measured sleep duration and correlated it to a 5-year incidence of coronary artery calcification. Those sleeping longer had clearer arteries.

"Not only does getting a good night's sleep each night allow your body and mind to recuperate from the stress and hard work of day-to-day activities, but it actually builds your long-term memory to store the knowledge acquired during the day."
I never really thought about the fact that it could affect my memory, good to know, especially when studying
