Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You (Review)

With Valentine's Day about a month away, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just released a Winnie the Pooh Special Edition Dvd, on January 5th 2010, aptly titled 'A Valentine for You'. Filled with three sweet Winnie episodes and some bonus fun, this dvd is a treat for Pooh fans of all ages.

Armed with our pizza and juice, Bunny girl and I settled to enjoy some time with our buddies down in the 100 acre woods.

In 'A Valentine for You', Christopher Robin is found thoughtfully penning down a Valentine card for a special little girl...not one of his little buddies. This obviously raises concern and after thought and ddeliberation they realize their good ol' pal C.R. would no longer be friends with them if he'd been smitten by the 'love bug'. The only way they could 'win him back' would be to 'un-smite' him with another 'love bug'. Then begins the hunt to catch a 'love bug'. Would they succeed? This is one episode worth watching!

I enjoyed this episode the most as it gave me the opportunity to explain to Bunny girl how it was important to remember our old friends would continue being our friends even when they got new friends...and how it also meant that she would still need to remember to be good friends with her old friends, even when she made new friends. (I love cartoons that have a 'take home point'....guess management school had a bad influence on me!!)

'Un-Valentine's Day' sweetly portrayed how showing a friend that you cared was really important for the busy little bodies in the 100 acre woods... it was even more important than Rabbit's rule not to celebrate Valentine's Day that year! Finally all the friends get together, throw their 'Un-Valentine' notions to the air and put up a special Valentine show for Christopher Robin.

Similarly 'My Hero' also emphasized on friendship and in this case total servitude because one friend believed the other saved his life. Your little one will enjoy poor bumbling Piglet at the mercy of bouncy, 'spur of the moment' Tigger!

We had a good laugh at Pooh's 'honey dominated', muddled up version of the three little pigs...errr....'Three Little Piglets'! Bunny girl was tickled with the amendments to the story and I suppose it gave her a nice little break from the two more straight forward, 'Valentine-y' episodes before it.

Overall, we enjoyed all four episodes. (Can't you make out with the long review?) We are yet to play the bonus game of ' Catch the Love Bug' (that would mean a further delay of nap time!) and I've also kept aside the six Pooh themed Valentine cards for her to address later next month.

Buy it:

You can pre-order this hour long dvd, 'A Valentine for You, ' from the Disney Store for 21.99 US$.
