Alternative to Swaddling: Cloud B's Bamboo Lullabag (Review)

I will never forget how my Aunt would force Bunny girl into a snug cotton swaddle a few hours after she was born. My Aunt would wrestle with the cotton wrap and in less than half an hour...even in her sleep....Bunny girl would manage to get a little fist out or a foot out. Exasperated my Aunt would start all over again, stressing that our baby needed to be swaddled to sleep well.

Hubby and I, as new parents, would just watch on with concern for our precious new born, amusement with the entertainment and with novice parental feelings that perhaps our baby didn't need the wrap after all. My Aunt was an experienced mother and grandmother and we thought it best to respect her love for 'mummifying' our baby but as soon as we got home and it was just Bunny girl, Daddy and Mommy the swaddle came right off!

Even though we were just a few days old, our parental instincts told us our baby daughter didn't want her limbs to be restricted and wanted the airflow around as she slept. Don't tell my Aunt but we never did swaddle her after that and guess what....she slept just fine!

I personally don't agree that swaddling a newborn is mandatory. Do what you as a parent feels will work best for your baby. Hubby and I just felt Bunny girl was a Daddy's girl and just like him, didn't like to feel stuffy and restricted when asleep. I decided in my mind that Bunny Boo would not go through that torture and yes I understand that it's cooler here and our baby to come would need to be warm when asleep but NO SWADDLES!!

Thankfully Cloud B wrote and introduced me to their Bamboo Lullabag.

This unique idea originates from the swaddling concept but is so much more 'baby friendly' I feel. With a lullabag Bunny Boo would stay snuggled BUT NOT stuffed in and baby's limbs would have the freedom to move around sans any cloth restrictions.

All we need to do is place Bunny Boo into the lullabag and zip our little one into a comforting but spacious little cocoon. I love the fact that the lullabag zips all around making transitions in and out of the same, convenient and non stressful for Mommy or the baby!

Bunny Boo has been sent a soft but durable, cream colored Bamboo Lullabag that has been made with eco-friendly, high quality fabrics and has been tested to ensure the temperature inside the lullabag stays constant and not stuffy. (Each Cloud B Lullabag has been designed for certain temperatures and its best you pick one that fits the environment your baby will be in.) Lullabags are also said to reduce risk factors associated with SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and suffocation.

I've heard a lot of positive things in parenting magazines and on other blogs about Cloud B's quality baby sleep products and after looking at the Bamboo Lullabag, feeling the fabric and visualizing our little one in the same, I know the brains behind the Cloud B products are parents who know what works for babies and not just 'lets make a product to sell' innovators.

* Note: The Cloud B Lullabag is a Gold NAPPA winner and has received the iParenting award.
