My back to school tip is to STOCK up on all of those school supplies when those prices are soo low! That may seem obvious, but I always grab as many supplies as I can -- for birthday and Christmas presents -- not just for my kids, but nieces and nephews, too! We also have a "store" at our VBS and the kids love "buying" notebooks and markers and crayons! So, STOCK up! You can use those kind of supplies all year round!

My best Back To School tip:
Each night before a school day, you and your child decide which clothes they will wear, lay them out so they are ready and this should help to avoid last minute chaos and tears in the morning. :-)

My back to school tip is to buy extra crayons and markers, and heck glue as well.

They make great stocking stuffers, they're also good to put in Operation Christmas Child boxes, and just good to have around the house for the random craft.

Stock up on school supplies during the sale time. Hit the consignment shops like Once Upon a Child for the younger kids and Goodwill for the Older ones using an alottment of money. With my oldest 2 I give them $50 and allow them to pocket the extra money after they do their shopping. They know to treat their clothing with care from year to year because it could mean more money and their pockets and when I give them a choice of where to shop my older two pick the Goodwill hands down over the more expensive places now.

My best tip...about 2 weeks before the first day of school, get into a "back to school routine"...set a bedtime and time to get up each morning, start each say with a good breakfast, get dressed and ready and practice school studies (reading, writing, math, etc), basically pretend it's time to go to school and do the things you would do if it where school time, this way when the first day of school does come, you'll be in a routine already.

My best back to school tip is to pack their lunch the night before their first day of school. It's going to be hard getting back into the routine the first day and trying not to run behind, so this would be one less thing to think about as you're running around.

My best back to school tip is to make certain that your child gets plenty of sleep. I teach high school and studies have shown that teenagers do their best if they have 8 to 11 hours sleep each night which I know is impossible. Most of my students have a job, have a child, or are active in sports - none of which allows them to get sleep. It would certainly keep them from sleeping in class.

Also, parents please do not call or text your children during class. They are not supposed to have cell phones with them during the school day. If it is an emergency, call the office and they will get the message to the student. Just like all of the other rules, it is even harder for the teachers to enforce them if the parents are breaking the rules.

thank you for letting me get on my soap box,

    Christine
