Bunny girl loves books and this past year in Preschool made such an impact on her especially as she began to identify sight words and started to piece alphabets together to attempt to read small words. This new achievement made looking through books all the more exciting and that's when another Pre-K Mommy suggested I introduce her to the Bob Books.

The Bob Books were developed by Bobby and John Maslen as a step by step reading program to help build up a child's confidence and ability to read simple books and then gradually move on to more advanced books.

I first introduced Bunny girl to Bob Books Set 1 for Beginning Readers. The set consists of 12 books of 12 pages each, using three letter word combinations.

The first book in the series uses the alphabets M, A, T and S and as the young reader progresses onto the last book in the series, he/she would be able to identify and read various three letter combinations using all the letters in the alphabet except Q.

The look of ecstatic accomplishment on Bunny girl's face the day she read through her first book was priceless. That day she read the same book to her dolls, Bunny Boo, Daddy after he came home from work and me several times through the day!
That boost in confidence encouraged her to work on the other books and now we're excited to attack the Bob Books Set 2 for Advancing Beginners.

This set is similar to Set 1 with 12 books (These are a little longer at 16 pages each) except there is a further progression with the inclusion of four letter words to the mix. The young reader will not find this challenging because the Maslens have done such a great job in gradually building up the child's ability to recognize and read letter combinations through Set 1.

I'm so glad I was introduced to the Bob Books. I highly recommend in investing in all 5 Reader sets as this will be a wonderful summer activity to do with your young Preschooler that will not only be fun (and out of the heat) but also a great skill to equip him/her with before the new Preschool/Kindergarten year begins.
