If your child has not been introduced to Janet Halfmann's books yet, I would urge you to try and get your hands on a copy of Little Black Ant on Park Street and Little Skink's Tail.
Janet has a gift of creatively intertwining learning with storytelling in such a mesmerizing way that you will enjoy reading her books just as much as your little ones will.
We were thrilled to review two of her latest books. I have split up my reviews to allow each book to enjoy their own spotlight space. This post features the 2010 Moonbeam Book Award Winner- Fur and Feathers.

The Buzz:
Fur and Feathers is an imaginative, fun tale of animal coverings (and classification).
When Sophia dreams that howling winds whisk the fur and feathers off her animal friends, she shares her clothes with them. But her clothing doesn't work well for the animals. Seeing their disappointment, she finds her grandma's huge sewing basket and offers to sew each animal the "right" coat. Animals line up to explain what they need and why. Polar Bear needs white fur to stay warm and hide in the snow. Fish needs scales, but with slime. Snake needs scales too, but dry ones. And how will Sophia make a prickly coat for Porcupine?
A "For Creative Minds" section at the back of the book features scientific classification, skin coverings, and animal classification.
E.B. Mommy's Report:
Fur and Feathers is such a fun read. Bunny girl has pulled the book out several times to have me read the same all over again. I think her creative little mind gets a ticking when she listens to how Sophia pulls out ideas on how she plans to clothe each animal, bird and reptile.
To make reading this book an interactive, engaging experience, encourage your child to brainstorm along with you to see how she/he would clothe each "animal customer"and then add your input on why you'd think that would be a great idea or not, basing your views on what the "customer" needs to survive in its animal environment.
This is a wonderful book for preschool and elementary school aged children, especially. I'm sure your child's teacher would love to share this with the rest of the class during story time.
Buy it:
Fur and Feathers retails for 16.95 US$ but you can buy this on Amazon at a reduced price of 13.22 US$ only.
Win it:

Mine is a tie between so many animals but the two I have narrowed it down to are the Koi Fish and the Calico Cat or even the clouded leopard or cheetah.

It's so much fun to read about everyone's favorite animal coverings. I love the summer covering of the male goldfinch, the many different colorful butterfly wings, and I love the skunk's coat. Good luck to all in this giveaway! Happy Reading!
