Seventh Generation Optical Brighteners (+ Giveaway)

I'm no stranger to Seventh Generation's laundry products. We've thankfully learned to wean away from harsher laundry detergents and veer mainly towards Seventh Generation's H.E. laundry detergent. It's thus always exciting to learn new things that help validate our "laundry product preference move"!

I'm sure you didn't know that the laundry detergent you may be using could contain little-known chemicals called optical brighteners?
According to scientific research, these can cause allergic reactions, are toxic to small fish and other aquatic life, and can pollute your waterways.
When ultraviolet light hits optical brighteners coating your clothing, the brighteners convert UV rays into visible light to create an optical illusion. This tricks the eye into thinking the clothing is whiter and brighter, and therefore cleaner than it really is.


How to avoid optical brighteners.

Seventh Generation's laundry detergents are not only free of optical brighteners, but they´re also non-toxic . I need PROOF!!

An experiment was conducted to see the difference between any regular laundry detergent and Seventh Generation's laundry detergent. Two identical organic cotton shirts were used. One was washed in conventional laundry detergent while the other was washed in Seventh Generation's laundry detergent.


When washed in a conventional laundry detergent that contains optical brighteners, the shirt on the left appears to glow under a black light while the shirt on the left (washed with Seventh Generation's laundry detergent) doesn't glow.

They say a picture speaks louder than a 1000 words and in this case the verdict lies in the picture itself!

So the next time you need to pick up some laundry detergent. Remember the picture!
