CLOSED: Sound Sleeping with Naturepedic (+Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

It all began when Barry Cik was on the hunt for the perfect crib mattress for his grandson. His hunt alarmed him when he realized there wasn't a single crib mattress in the market that was latex free, nylon free, chemical free, vinyl free, wool free and waterproof. Thus came the birth of Naturepedic, the first AND only mattress company that boasts of a mattress profile that's 100% natural, 100% non toxic and 100% organic.

We were given a regular crib mattress prior to Bunny Boo's birth but after I read about Naturepedic I knew we had to make the switch. Our little one's bed now cradles a Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra mattress.

The mattress is
  • Made from 100% organic cotton and not a patch of vinyl, pvc or polyurethane foam.
  • Coated with a polyethylene coating that helps keep the mattress protected incase liquids are spilt on the mattress or a little someone has a 'potty accident' in his/her sleep.
  • Well padded with unbleached, undyed organic cotton. I love how comfortable the mattress is even though it is nice and thick. As always when you need a ruler to check dimensions you never to seem to find one, thus I used 2 goodies from my kitchen pantry....a Nestle tin of cream and a Nestle tin of condensed milk. Yes, the mattress is actually as thick and padded as both tins placed on top of each other!

  • Supported with a heavy duty orthopedic innerspring and coupled with the firm flat mattress surface. It provides the ideal setting for sound, healthy sleep especially for a young one's tender body.
  • Perfect to combat a child's allergies as it comes with a dust mite barrier cover and is not made with any wool or latex.
  • Covered with a fire protection system that has been tested and proven not to burst into flames or emit any deadly chemicals if in the eventuality that it does catch fire.
Yes, the Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra mattress is more expensive than a regular mattress but I'd rather invest in a healthier alternative for my child than spend lower for a regular mattress and later find that my little one is not comfortable on his/her mattress or has begun to manifest symptoms of dust allergies.

This has been designed and tested by pediatricians, orthopedic specialists, chemists and engineers and has also won several awards for being an outstanding baby product. Besides being organic, I love the fact that it's also waterproof, making this Mommy give the No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra mattress a big thumbs up plus when your little ones sleeps sound on the same, why should you consider otherwise?

Buy it:

CLOSED: Alexander's Playroom's Baby Diaper Cakes (+Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Alexander's Playroom Baby Boutique is the place you'd want to go to shop for those baby gifts and baby shower supplies. When you 'window shop' around the site you will notice that there are gifts for practically everything you have on that 'baby must buy' list. It's no surprise that you find all the essentials simply because the owner is a Mommy of 4 and knows what you'd need to throw that special baby shower or bless on the new baby.

Alexander's Playroom Baby Boutique also has a collection of over 50 unique, baby diaper cakes that are specially assembled and created only once an order for the same is placed.

Bunny Boo was sent a 'welcome to this world' prezzie.... a Baby Bear Diaper Cake.

This 10" x 15" diaper cake came packaged beautifully and intact without a single dent or tear.

If you take one look at the cake you wouldn't say it was held together with a layered filling of 50 boutique fan styled Pampers Swaddlers diapers. (The diapers are conveniently placed minus rubber bands, saving you the hassle of taking off the bands before using the diapers)

I also love the impression it gave me of a Mommy Bear looking at her Baby Bear (The Baby Bear is the little Bear from the pacifier clip...now isn't that creative?) hatching in a nest.

My three favorite elements of the cake (Other than all those diapers ofcourse!) are the

100% cotton hooded bear towel,

The adorable 'Mommy's Lil Bear' hairbrush and

the cute, fluffy Baby Gund Teddy Bear wearing a "Need A Hug" red tee.

The 3 tiered Baby Bear Diaper Cake also holds
  • A polka dotted flannel receiving blanket
  • 2 bibs
  • A MAM pacifier
  • A Manicure set and
  • A comb
So the next time you're in two minds over what to get the expectant mommy for her baby shower, think diaper cakes ....you can never go wrong with 3 tiers of practical 'must haves'!

Buy it:

You can buy a Baby Bear Diaper Cake for 79 US$. (Shipping on all diaper cakes is free)

Win it:

One reader will have the opportunity to win their choice of either a Baby Bear Diaper Cake or a Baby Ducks Diaper Cake.

Here's how you can win it:

1. Mandatory entry (without this, all other entries will be disqualified)-

CLOSED: Creating Meaningful Memories with 'Inspired Gifts' (+Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

Thanks to digital cameras I literally have thousands and thousands of pictures of Bunny girl and now several hundreds of Bunny Boo all in digital format. Now if I could, I'd really love to convert them all into hard copies but boy, would Hubby have quite a fit to see truckloads of photographs being delivered to our home! Do you face a similar predicament? Well, Inspired Gifts is one place where you can find a way to reproduce your beautiful 'digital memories' in compact ways.

Inspired Gifts provides options to create photo books, canvas prints, photo posters, greeting cards, calendars and more. I had the opportunity to create a 2.5 x 30" Photo Wall Strip with a few precious pictures of Bunny girl and Bunny Boo.

I have to add that it was not just easy to put what I wanted together but also quick to upload the pictures and finalize the end product before placing the order.

The first thing, I'd advise you to do, before starting out on your photo project would be to create your Inspired Gifts account. This saves you the hassle of going back to create the account halfway through creating your personalized photo product and will ensure your product is saved every step of the way.
(Once you've created your account, you can even upload the photographs you plan on using in your project to save yourself from doing that later on. {Don't worry...uploading the pictures is easy and quick.})

You can choose to create a Photo Wall Strip with one of the two specified sizes: 2.5 x 30" or 4.625 x 56". Once you've picked the size you get to pick from one of fourteen design tabs for the Photo Wall Strip's border.

(I opted for the classy black and white shadowed Ultrasound border)

Next you need to pick the photographs you'd like featured on the Photo Wall Strip and there you have it..... a beautiful photo product is done and ready to go in for print.

I love the 2.5 x 30" Photo Wall Strip we made and I'm seriously considering doing a Wall Strip in the larger size.

All Photo Wall Strips are laminated with a dull lustre finish for durability and come framed on either side with thin metallic frames. The top frame comes with a hanging eyelet that allows you to hang your 'memories' on the wall or you can place your strip on your refrigerator. (I've put mine on my refrigerator and have the strip held up with magnetic buttons.)

Inspired Gifts not only has some great ways to help preserve your photographs but can also offer you free design help, with a turnaround of less than 48 hours. All you need to do is shoot off an email and leave the rest to the team at Inspired Gifts.

Buy it:

You can create and purchase a 2.5 x 30" Photo Wall Strip for 44.95 US$.

Win it:

One reader will have the opportunity to win
a 2.5 x 30" Photo Wall Strip that can be customized with your favorite photographs.

Hearty 'n' Healthy....Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Rice (Review Only)

I remember seeing Uncle Ben's face smiling down at me each time I crossed boxes of rice in our local grocery store as a child. Strangely enough, our family never did try any of the Uncle Ben's Rice Products but Uncle Ben's name was as familiar to us as the neighbor next door.

Thanks to Mom Central, I had the opportunity to FINALLY sample some of Uncle Ben's Rice Products. We were sent 3 varieties of Uncle Ben's whole grain brown rice: Uncle Ben's Natural Whole Grain Brown Rice, Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Boil in Bag and Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Fast & Natural Instant Rice.

Now in our family, Hubby has always preferred whole grain brown rice to white rice while I've preferred the latter for three reasons:
  • Ease and speed in cooking the same
  • Taste and
  • Aroma (Even while expecting Bunny Boo, I'd feel nauseous with the strong aromas that would waft out of our kitchen when we'd boil whole grain brown rice so much so that I made sure we only ate white rice till our little one arrived!)
Thus I did approach the Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Rice Products with apprehension!

We decided to sample Uncle Ben's Natural Whole Grain Brown Rice first. Now cooking time for the same is about 30 minutes. You do need to keep checking to make sure you don't overcook the rice. (My first batch got overcooked and the grains looked like squashed snowflakes in the end. Taste-wise there wasn't much of a difference but Hubby did say he preferred the way the rice tasted when the rice was cooked just right with the second batch.)

You can view the nutritional content for this product on this link.

Now if you're in a hurry to get your lunch done in a jiffy, yet want to make sure you eat some good whole grain brown rice, I would definitely suggest trying out Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Fast & Natural Instant Rice.

Not only does this cook in about 10 minutes but I personally feel it has a nice flavorful taste to it. (Hubby says its psychological just because the rice cooked faster and didn't have as strong an aroma than the Natural Rice!)

You can view the nutritional content for this product on this link.

Another quick alternative is Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Boil in Bag. I love the way this gets cooked!

All you need to do is place the pre-sealed pouches in water (Four cups of water to one pouch of rice) and boil the same for about ten minutes and voila.....you have your rice ready!

Again I found the rice to be flavorful and yes, very easy to make.

You can view the nutritional content for this product on this link.

Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Rice Products does have its benefits over regular rice as it

We've eaten the Whole Grain Brown Rice Products with Indian curries and think the overall meal has been wholesome, nutritious and our palettes have enjoyed the experience. You can experiment and do lots more with the rice. You can add veggies to the instant rice mix and boil them together with a pinch of chicken stock cube crumble or you could try making this delicious Indian kheer (A Sweet Spiced Indian Rice Pudding)....
  • Take a box of Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Fast & Natural Instant Rice and cook it as per the instructions but ensuring you substitute the water with milk.
  • Before you place your rice-milk mixture on the stove, add 3-4 crushed cardamom pods and 2 strands of saffron to the mix.
  • Add to the mix, sugar or condensed milk and sweeten the mix to your desired sweet preference.
  • Now cook the rice in the milk mixture on a low flame and remove once the rice is cooked
You can serve your kheer hot off the stove or chilled and you can garnish the same with slivered almonds and pistachios. Mmmmm....yummy for my tummy, as Bunny girl would say!

Need some more recipe inspiration? Visit the Uncle Ben's Recipe Vault for some easy to make, hearty 'n' healthy whole grain brown rice recipes.

Uncle Ben's Whole Grain Brown Rice Products has won our family's seal of approval and now I'm game to eat whole grain brown rice without any qualms.

Backyard Safari Outfitters (Review Only)

Summit Toy has the perfect backyard fun for your kids this summer. In the past talking about fun in the backyard seemed like a dream for Bunny girl but today our 'little dream' is finally a reality with our very own backyard at home. Thanks to Team Mom and Summit Toy, not only did Bunny girl get to play outdoors but she was able to go on her very own ' Backyard Exploration Field Adventure' with the Backyard Safari Outfitters gear she received.

No adventure is complete with first getting prepared for the same. Bunny girl slipped on her 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Essential Field Gear Cargo Vest' and with her short hair in two pigtails she looked like Bindi Irwin had stepped out of the 'Crocodile Hunter' show and into our backyard!

The durable poly-twill vest comes with
  • Four cargo pockets with velcro closures
  • One 2" deep zipper pocket with a mesh inner net pocket
  • Six D rings
  • Custom zipper pulls
  • Cargo shoulder epaulets
  • 2 oversized mesh net cargo pockets in the rear
  • An adjustable rear strap
  • A clear-vu front pocket with 'An Essential Field Pop-Up Guide'

You betcha! She was all set for adventure and kept 'referencing' her little guide as we pretended we were on our 'Discovery Adventure' in the Jungle!

To aid us on our 'Adventure', we took along the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Land and Water Mega View Periscope' and the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Bug Wrangler's Extreme Bug Suction Vacuum'

The 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Land and Water Mega View Periscope' allows the child to look over high fences, walls and around corners. It can even allow you to check what's underwater if you immerse it in a little pond or lake.

It has three sturdy, light weight sections that help telescope upto a height of 4 feet and is immersible for upto 16" underwater.

Bunny girl did explore a bit with her Periscope but quickly switched over to using the Bug Suction Vacuum as she struggled a bit with the Periscope weight-wise and managing the height.

Now the highlight of our 'Discovery Adventure' was using the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Bug Wrangler's Extreme Bug Suction Vacuum'

Not only can you capture live bugs with the suctioning hose (The Bug Suction Vacuum comes with two 'Catch and Release' hoses allowing you to capture both big bugs and little bugs without maiming them) but you can inspect them real close, with the inbuilt magnifying glass.

The best part of this 'contraption' is allowing your child to look at creepy crawlies up close without physically touching the bugs and after the mini 'study' is over, you can safely release the bug back into their natural environment without harming them.

We had fun catching flies, ants and rolly-pollies. We're hoping to catch a butterfly or a caterpillar soon.

Buy it:

You can buy the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Essential Field Gear Cargo Vest' for 19.99 US$, the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Land and Water Mega View Periscope' for 24.99 US$ and the 'Backyard Safari Outfitters Bug Wrangler's Extreme Bug Suction Vacuum' for 19.99 US$.

CLOSED: Exquisite...Unique...Priceless-The Vintage Pearl (+GC Giveaway)

* Click here to view the name(s) of the winner(s)*

It's not easy finding the perfect gift symbolic of a particular event or for a specific reason especially when you want it to be unique, exquisite and priceless but thankfully I stumbled upon an incredibly creative Mommy of 4's site...The Vintage Pearl.

Erin has set up the most beautiful store that carries one of a kind creations that will warm the heart of anyone who receives a piece from her collections.

Need something that will encourage Hubby yet be a nice rugged looking accessory he'd be proud to wear?
Look at this Personalized Wide Leather Cuff featuring one of my all time favorite verses....

Or how about the Oval of Love for that sweet young couple from church who will have their vows solemnized next month?

Most of you know my Momma is with us, helping me get back into routine at home after Bunny Boo's birth. She made sure she was there when Bunny girl was born too, so I wanted to get her a thank you prezzie that would not be one of those regular 'buy off a store', 'everyone has that' gifts.

It was hard choosing what I wanted from The Vintage Pearl but finally I found the piece that summed it all up perfectly.....The Names on my Heart

I had Bunny girl and Bunny Boo's names hand-stamped onto the 1" sterling silver heart that is elegantly cupped around the edges. The center of the pendant cradles a freshwater pearl that I thought signified how important my Momma is to my 2 little ones.

The pendant hangs on a sterling silver ball chain but my Momma has taken the pendant out and hung it on her gold chain. (She insists on wearing the pendant every day as it means so much to her)

It's no secret....The Vintage Pearl has scored big time with Momma and me!

Buy it:

You can buy the beautiful, personalized 'names on my heart' piece for 44 US$.

Win it:

One reader will have the opportunity to win
a 50$ gift certificate that may be used towards anything on The Vintage Pearl site

Here's how you can win it:
