New Wave Enviro Review and Giveaway

In 1994, when the focus on going green hadn't hit the retail market as yet, New Wave Enviro decided they needed to provide consumers with pure, on demand water at a price everyone could afford. Their mission was simple but profound- "Encourage chlorine free and litter free living". 15 years later, each one of their products bear that stamp of 'green living'

New Wave Enviro offers an eco friendly lunch pack option that not only is safer for your child or you (no plastics!)but is also more durable and in the long run more cost efficient!
New Wave Enviro's 100% bamboo lunch bags are incredibly soft and lightweight but do not be fooled by the weight. These bags are durable and can carry quite a weight inside the 6.5" x 10" bag!

You've heard me say this before.... I'm so partial to stainless steel! I love that these are safe for food storage and strongly withstand regular use. You may find a few scratches after years but you will never find areas peeling off or odd scents that emit after months of use (as in the case of plastic lunch boxes). The stainless steel food container is spacious enough to fit a nice stacked sandwich or a bowl of chopped fruit or even a big doughnut!

Finally to complete your meal, grab a nice, refreshing drink of water or some juice stored in a 20.2 oz stainless steel bottle. Again this is a much safer option as against BPA traced and chemical leaching plastic bottles that are generally used. The stainless steel used in these bottles is 304 food grade quality, which is safe for liquid storage. Again these are reusable, durable and convenient to carry in your bamboo lunch bag or clip onto your backpack.

Unfortunately these products cannot be bought from the New Wave Enviro site, so I did a little research and found out that Amazon.com does sell New Wave Enviro products but charge additional shipping. Your other option would be to buy these at a store near you.

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller (Book Review)

Nobody really gets a chance to go back and edit their lives. What's done, has been done...chapter closed...move on. Well, nobody except Donald Miller. After having lived a life that he termed 'lived' and writing a book about his life, 2 movie producers decide to contact him and make a movie on his life. Exciting opportunity, yes!......but there's a twist! An honest, sit down, one-on-one talk reveals to Donald that his life in the past was just too humdrum for an audience to watch. He'd have to rewrite parts of his life to bring spunk, humor and adventure to the full screen.

Would Donald Miller succumb to the pressure and change or will he prefer to leave his life, on record, ....'boring'? Read A Million Miles in a Thousand Years to find out!

If you'd like a light read and a book filled with stories, thoughts and pockets of humor pooled together then this is the book for you. Personally, this wasn't the kind of Christian book I generally enjoy reading. For me, maybe, the book's brief was more exciting than the content and I thought there would be more in terms of solid Christian encouragement and insight built in.. but this was not so. (You can view more reviews on the Thomas Nelson site.)

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years was just released on September 29,2009 and retails on the Thomas Nelson site for 19.99 US$ or on Amazon.com for 11.69 US$

Joshua Bell 'At Home With Friends' Review and Giveaway

If you love instrumental classics and you're crazy about violins, then this Joshua Bell cd is for you!

For those of you who don't know who Joshua Bell is....he's an acclaimed violinist who first made his mark in music circles nationwide at the age of 14 and made his first debut in the respected Carnegie Hall. From then on, there has been no looking back for this gifted violinist. (Read more on Joshua Bell's biography.)

Joshua Bell's 'At Home With Friends' resounds with talent and eloquence in musical conversation. You can tell that the violin is played by a skilled performer especially when you hear 'Para Ti', one of my favorite tracks on this cd. The crisp perfection and tempo make this, I feel, a showcase of what Joshua Bell can do as a performer. Very impressive!

The music, overall, is soothing and great to play in the background when you have friends over for a nice home cooked meal.....perfectly tying in with the title of this cd!

'At Home With Friends' has released today and can be bought from Amazon.com at a reduced price of 11.99 US$. This is also available on all music sites, including iTunes, Target and Walmart.

Album Tracklisting (originally performed by) includes:
Para Tí featuring Tiempo Libre, various
Grieg: Sonata No. 3 featuring Sergei Rachmaninoff (Zenph re-performance)
Il Postino featuring Carel Kraayenhof, bandoneon
Chovendo Na Roseira featuring Dave Grusin, piano
Variant Moods: Duet for Sitar & Violin featuring Anoushka Shankar, sitar

'Thumbuddy' Review and Giveaway

I'm sure your child is special and sometimes there just aren't enough ways to tell them. Well, guess what? I have yet another way for you to let them know how important they are......with a 'You Are Thumbuddy' cd!

Before we take a peek into what the cd holds, you really should meet 'Thumbuddy'!
" Hi, I’m Thumbuddy, and I know you are a precious miracle! So why am I a thumb with words on my face? Well, look at your hand and you’ll notice that your thumb is set apart from your fingers – just as you are set apart. In the same way, your thumbprint is set apart, unique in all of history."
(“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” Jeremiah 1:5)

I think that's so precious! Well, that's what all the songs in the cd resound. Your child is a miracle, one of a kind, blessed and wonderful!

All 16 songs on the cd are tunes from popular nursery rhymes and kids songs that your child will recognize. Bunny girl's favorite is 'The miracle are you' while I like the 'Thumbuddy ABC'. (You can listen to a clip of each song on the cd from this link.)

I was also given the opportunity to review the 'Words of Blessing' cd.
I was reminded of a cassette I had while in college that was filled with the promises of God spoken over soft instrumental music. I still remember how this cassette ministered to me each time I heard it and since then I've always looked for something similar on a cd. You can imagine how excited I was when I heard the 'Words of Blessing' cd for the first time in the car. It's a cd filled with God's Word spoken over instrumental music...just what I've been looking for! Sounds funny but the reason I love it is because I feel like God's speaking directly to me. I felt that the man who speaks on the cd, just....well.....has a perfect 'God-sounding' voice. (Ok ...you can stop laughing now!!) Anyways, I think it's a great encouragement cd to play in the car while taking a quiet drive back from the store or dropping your child to school. (You can listen to a clip of each segment on the cd from this link.)

The Thumb People have books, cds and even curriculum ('Curricu-thumb') you can use while homeschooling or even at church while teaching little kids. Visit the products link to view prices and to even click to hear samplers from the cds.

While visiting the site, you can also download some free coloring pages, stickers and more for your kids.

Three things every parent should teach their kids (Mcklinky Blog hop)

I love the theme for this week's blog hop. Hubby and I stand by our top three 'Bunny girl must knows' and would love to share them with you.

First and foremost, we believe a child should be taught the Word of God at a very young age. The importance of developing a relationship with our Heavenly Father is so important. Remember when you teach a young child the Word of God, when he/she grows up, the Word of God will be implanted in his/her heart and will guide every decision he/she makes.

A child should also be taught the importance of prayer. Initially it may be a struggle to get a child to sit still and pray but over time you will see that they get used to the routine and begin to enjoy "talking to Jesus". There's nothing that brings us more joy than to see Bunny girl close her eyes and pray for a little classmate who bullies her little friends or even pray for our family back home. Over time we've seen that Bunny girl knows that we need to pray for healing and even just to thank God for answering a prayer request. I still remember receiving an answer to prayer a week ago and Hubby rushed into the room to tell both of us just as we were nodding off to sleep. Immediately Bunny girl bounced up and said "Come on! Lets thank Jesus." She didn't forget! Hubby and I have learnt so much from listening to her short, simple and sincere prayers.

I honestly believe a parent has done an awesome job with their child if they raise a God fearing child. Everything else falls into place after this.

The third thing a child should be taught is to respect grownups and their friends (both young and old.) We always tell Bunny girl she needs to
  • Be polite ("Please" "Thank You" "May I" Excuse me" "Sorry")
  • Obey the first time round.
  • Take turns while playing and
  • Share (We still have a little difficulty with taking turns and sharing but we're slowly getting there)
There are many more things I'd love to share but since we've been restricted to three, I've picked our top 3. Remember none of us can be perfect parents, we all make mistakes but with God's Grace we CAN raise our kids to be good adults.

PUR Flavor Options Pitcher Review and Giveaway

Ok...now I'm not a big water drinker! I think the only time I really downed a good number of glasses of water each day was when I was pregnant with Bunny girl and later while nursing her. Right now I'm anything but your water drinking model!

When I was sent the PUR Flavor Options Pitcher to review I have to admit I was intrigued with all I'd heard about the PUR!

Here are some 'must know' facts about a PUR Flavor Options Pitcher:
  • It has a 2 stage water filtration system that reduces 2 times more contaminants than other brands
  • It is the first and only filter for tap water that lets you add a touch of sugar free, calorie free fruit flavoring to your glass of water.
  • A PUR filter is said to reduce upto 98% of the lead content in tap water, 99.9% of microbial cysts and 99% of pharmaceuticals
Impressive!

We generally fill our 5 gallon water holder with sweet water as the tap water in our apartment has always tasted slightly saline and chlorine streaked but with the new PUR Flavor Options Pitcher I was game to see if there would be any difference.

The Experiment...

I first washed out the pitcher and the filter and then fixed the filter securely onto the pitcher segment.

I then filled another pitcher with tap water, poured it into the PUR pitcher through the filter and then placed the lid back onto the pitcher.

Now on the lid there's a little button that flashes to indicate how the filter is working. A green light signifies that the filter is working, orange signifies a need for the filter to be changed while a red light insists that the filter be changed NOW!! (A PUR filter generally works effectively to filter around 40 gallons of water.)

At this point, you can decide if you'd like to have an unflavored glass of water or a glass of flavored water. PUR flavoring options include lemon, raspberry (we received both flavorings and I really liked the raspberry flavoring. If you chill your water it will make a yummy refreshment after a sweaty day outdoors....even though it's actually just water!!), grape, strawberry and peach. (I think this would taste great too!)

To opt for flavored water all you need to do is press the flavor button and pour out your glass of water!.... Ta-dah!!

The Verdict....

I have to admit the water did taste much better filtered through the PUR pitcher. A miniscule taste of saline was there but nothing that bothered me as before. If you add flavoring to your water, you won't even realize that you're actually drinking a glass of filtered tap water! So I guess this means I will be drinking more water now!!

Oh and I have to mention that the pitcher is a great size to fit conveniently into any fridge and can hold upto seven 8 oz glasses of water.

Yoplait yogurt review and a Giftbag giveaway

Did you know that ....
  • 76% of the population does not get enough vitamin D into their body systems?
  • 72% of the population does not get the required amount of calcium in their diets?
  • There is only 1 brand of yogurt that is rich in calcium AND vitamin D? I didn't! Yoplait yogurt is that only brand!

Ok so it has vitamin D...what's so big about that?

Did you know that you need vitamin D to help your body absorb the calcium you intake, to build and maintain strong and healthy bones?

People till the age of 50 need to absorb a minimum of 200 units of Vitamin D while people between the age of 51-70 require 400 units and above the age of 70, need atleast 600 units. Now if you have a cup of Yoplait yogurt you get 10-20% of your required units in that 1 cup, now isn't that an easy way to down those units?

I am partial to a cup of strawberry flavored yogurt but if you have a palette that likes flavors with a little twist then you should try their blackberry pomegranate, orange creme, harvest peach, white chocolate raspberry or even their boysenberry flavors. (You have 24 flavors to choose from!) I personally have not tried these flavors because I still steer towards strawberry, strawberry and only strawberry!

So there you have it- a yummy, healthy cold treat filled with the calcium and vitamin D you need!

All set to win a 'Get Strong & Healthy' gift bag?'

2 winners will have a chance to win a 'Get Strong & Healthy' gift bag each. The gift bag includes:
  • A coupon for free Yoplait yogurt (Unfortunately this coupon is not valid outside the United States or within these States-ID, LA, ND, NJ, NV and TN but you can enter the contest to win the other goodies!)
  • A neat exercise mat (getting the right amounts of calcium and vitamin D is not enough. Pair the two with exercise and you will have the right solution for 'strong & healthy' bones!
  • A Yoplait carry bag to hold your mat and
  • An autographed copy of Nancy O'Dell's new book 'Full Of Life' (Mom-To-Mom 'wish I knew when pregnant' tips!)
I think Bunny girl loves the exercise mat more than me. I've had to hide it away because 3 days in a row she'd run to pull it out just before leaving for school and say in her 'big lady tone' " I'm sorry...you just have to do your exercises right now! I'm sorry."

Thanks to
My Blog Spark we received this wealth of information, the healthy yogurt to sample and the gift bag for review.

Here's how you can win it:

1. Mandatory entry (without this, all other entries will be disqualified)-

Tell me how you incorporate calcium and vitamin D into your family's diet.

3 new blog awards....and passing it along

I'm always touched when I'm sent blog awards....thank you so much!!! I love that all these blog awards get passed on, so the love continues to go around! :) So here goes...

The first 2 awards came in several weeks ago from my new blogging friend Teresa at Too many heartbeats. You really should stop by her blog and give her a big virtual hug. She has gone through so much and continues to go through lots in terms of her health and more BUT through it all she has a joy in a spirit and hope in her heart. You are special Teresa!!....and thanks again for both the awards.

The first award is the "You add sunshine to my life" award

I can't pass this on to any one particular blog because every blog I follow or subscribe to, does add sunshine to my day in their own special way. So this award goes to all my blogging buddies....Thank you for what you do in the Blogosphere!!

The second award is the "Splash"award, given to blogs that allure, inspire, amuse or impress you.

I pass this award onto a blog that I have recently begun to follow - 'Annies Home'. I love that there's so much to read and enjoy on this blog and once you get there you will feel right at home!

My third award came in this morning from the Green Organic Mama, who thought my blog is "Over the Top" - thank you so much!

Protect-A-Bed Review and Giveaway

If you thought your breathing problems were only because of the climate around you should also think of checking the mattress you sleep on. Did you know that dust mites secretly hiding in your mattress can cause asthma, allergies and/or eczema? Scary thought!

Did you know that you actually get mattress and pillow protectors that can block dust mite and bed bug infestation?

I'm so glad our family now knows there's 'Protect-A-Bed' to safeguard us from little bugs and to protect our expensive mattress from juice spills and 'little girl play accidents'. (I wish we'd known about this when Bunny girl was potty training-we would have saved ourselves from a lot of 'accident' stains on the mattress)

The Protect-A-Bed product line includes pillow protectors, mattress protectors, crib protectors (great buy!) and mattress encasements.

We received a king sized Premium Mattress Protector to review and though it looks like any other quality mattress protector, it's appearance is actually deceptive because it's more than just another quality mattress protector!!

The Premium Mattress Protectors are:
  • Guaranteed to moderate temperature and enhance sleeping comfort
  • Waterproof yet air vapor porous - acting the same way as human skin
  • Effective in preventing bacteria and dust mites from breeding in your pillow and mattress (a major cause of asthma, eczema and rhinitis)
  • Protects mattresses from stains (accidental spills, perspiration, bodily fluids)
  • Machine washable on hot, tumble dry medium
  • Especially helpful in cases of incontinence
  • Ultra thin with four-way stretch does not detract from the comfort of the mattress
  • Can be used on all visco elastic, inner spring and latex mattresses
  • Fitted-sheet style
  • Expandable skirt ensures mattress protector fits any depth of mattress (8" to 20")
  • Wash durability rating: > 200 washes
  • Soft and super absorbent
  • Can be sterilized at 121° C/250° F
  • Tested for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100
  • Complete with a 10 year guarantee against fabric and manufacturing defects.
  • Listed as a Class 1 Medical Device with the FDA.
(Just a thought .... won't this be a great product to carry along on your trips that require for you to stay in a hotel and sleep on a bed that has been there for donkeys years and perhaps have 3 generations of teeny tiny bed bugs residing happily in the folds!)

With all these benefits I honestly think it makes it worth the while to invest in a Protect-A-Bed mattress protector rather than an ordinary mattress protector, from any old store. It's expensive but worth the price when it comes to safeguarding your family's health (and the life of your mattress!)

Buy It:

You can buy Protect-A-Bed products online or even at a local dealer close to you. (I checked the locations near me and the Sears close by apparently carry these products- Neat!)

My Story Bible-Review and Giveaway

'My Story Bible' is a lovely collection of 66 loved Bible stories written by Jan Godfrey and illustrated by Paola Bertolini Gradina.

This is a good book to introduce a child to popular Bible stories. All the kiddies favorites are in here like David and Goliath, Joseph and his colorful coat, Jonah and the big fish, Ruth and several stories on the miracles of Jesus.

Each story is short but the message is beautifully conveyed to the young reader/listener.

This is the 4th Jan Godfrey book Bunny girl and I have read together. Not all people can write in a language that is simple for a little child to understand but yet bring forth the complete essence of a story. Jan is one person who has been blessed with the ability to do this and that's why I love her books.

'My Story Bible' has been published by Anno Domini Publishing and retails at 12.99 US$. This is a 144 paged hardcover book and a great gift to give any young child on his/her birthday or for Christmas. (Check the links on the right hand side of the page to find an online retailer or a store near you, from which you can buy this book.)

* I have reviewed this book as a member of Tyndale's Blog Network *
