It just goes without saying that Scholastic is the name that comes to mind when you say books, be it for school or at home. Bunny girl's pre-school is hosting a book fair and her teachers have drawn up a wish list for her class and the list from top to bottom reads 'Scholastic'!
I know I don't even need to introduce this wonderful publisher only because we all read their books. Here's the great news- starting this month, you will be able to read reviews of some great Scholastic books for kids and have the opportunity to even win a copy/copies, right here on the blog...woo-hoo!!
We love Scholastic!
I thought the first review just had to be this adorable book by Dr. Mary Manz Simon- 'My First Read and Learn Favorite Bible Verses'.

I love the way Dr. Mary introduces the book "Just as it is important to feed infants and toddlers nourishing food during early months of life, providing spiritual food for children is also important. God clearly directs us to imprint His Word on their hearts" (Psalm 78:5,6) I agree with that 100% and I believe you should never wait till your child is 5 or 6 years old to teach them the Word of God.
Our kids grasp things faster than we'd like to believe it and honestly I believe you can start teaching a child the Word of God and memorizing small verses even before she/he turns 3 years old. Need a little help? Well this book is the right book to guide you in choosing easy verses to remember.
'My First Read and Learn Favorite Bible Verses' has verses for 9 themes- creation, virtues, hope for the future, morning, friends, evening, prayer, worship and safety. The book has a mixture of verses and I can confirm that there are easy to remember verses for children as young as 3 years old. Verses like:
"Each morning I pray to you Lord" (Psalm 88:13)-under creation
"Treat others as you want them to treat you" (Matthew 7:12)- under virtues- and a great verse to teach a child on how Jesus wants them to play with their friends.
Bunny girl enjoys going through the pages as each page has a colorful illustration and because the book is a board book, it's easy to manage (and not rip!) in the little hands of a child.
This 40 paged book is priced at 8.99 US$ in the Scholastic store and is a great buy(at a great price!) for any child. A definite investment.

ReplyDeleteLove is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. ReplyDeleteSo Many Favorites...I don't know why, maybe because I just read an inspiration message at Faith Imagined ( http://www.faithimagined.com/2009/10/his-joy-is-my-strength.html ), but the first verse that popped into my head was : Psalm 81:10 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. God always knows what we need when we need it. We just have to be willing to receive it.

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.
