Temple Touch Review and Giveaway (BTSC- Day 34)

When I was contacted to review the Temple Touch thermometer from Reli On, I first said no because I was reviewing the Exergen. Sean immediately shot off another mail, gently persuading me to give it a try. These are his words verbatim...
" I did want to let you know a couple differences in case you were unaware. While the two products are similar, Temple Touch is smaller and costs just $9.95 at Wal-Mart. It is a great low-cost alternative with the same results."

You know me....if there's a way I can cut costs, I will jump to it and if I can let you in on the price savings, then I'm definitely sold...so along came a Temple Touch thermometer for review.

"The Temple Touch thermometer utilizes R.A.T.E. (Rapid, Accurate, Temperature, Establishment Technology) that measures the heat radiating from the body and produces a clinically accurate measurement of the core body temperature. "

I thought I'd wait a while before I posted the review as we had a household in good health by God's Grace...till yesterday afternoon. Bunny girl came home with the sniffles and this morning woke up with a full fledged cold and was a little warm. (Thus today's review comes to you this late. My poor little Bunny is taking a much needed nap now. ) My initial reaction was to run for the other thermometer but then I remembered I needed to review the Temple Touch...what better time than now?


Here's how it works:

1. Press and release the Power button till you hear one beep.
2. The previous result will be displayed for 2 seconds
3. Wait for the hourglass icon to disappear, then 2 beeps will be heard to indicate that the thermometer is now ready to measure
4. Place the thermometer's probe in the center of the temple area between the end of the eyebrow and the hairline. Gentle press and hold it to ensure good contact with the skin is maintained.
5. As soon as the thermometer is in place, the measurement will start automatically.
   
6. A temperature reading will be displayed within 6-8 seconds. One long beep will be heard to indicate that measurement is complete and temperature will be displayed for about a minute.

What did I think, having used both thermometers?

1. To be honest, I am so glad Sean convinced me to give the Temple Touch a shot. I'm not very good with things that are not in the regular so I did have to get a little practice using the Exergen with Hubby's help but this was much easier to figure out on my own.
   
2. I loved that the temperature reading can be done in both Celsius and Fahrenheit- you can change the settings based on what you prefer.
3. Display of the earlier temperature reading before taking the next is a nice feature especially when you're trying to monitor the temperature of a child/adult with a fever.
4. The thermometer is smaller and lighter, making it more convenient to carry on travels.
   
5. And the price....well its a clincher! Totally affordable for every parent.

I'm not saying that I don't love the Exergen- it definitely measures temperature quicker than the Temple Touch but between the two, I'll be honest, I prefer the Temple Touch for the reasons mentioned above. My only concern with this thermometer is I may have to use it a little more carefully as I'm concerned it's not as sturdy because of its size and weight.
