The Greatest Book ever written is, without a doubt, the Bible. Over the years, we've seen, read and studied several versions in different languages but the beauty of God's Written Word is this....it never fails to lift a weary spirit, encourage an unhappy countenance, bring hope to the hopeless and joy to the seeking. The Word enriches both young and old.'The Jesus Storybook Bible' written by Sally Lloyd Jones and illustrated by Jago, beautifully captures the essence of it all by conveying every story does whispers Christ's Name.
Keeping in mind children in the age range of 4-7, Sally has creatively used language that they can understand. Every story (Old Testament and New) is re-told in a manner that kids will love to hear and read. Each story ends in a unique and beautiful way....they all end bringing reference to Jesus. By doing this, Sally has opened a child's mind to understand and never forget that every story in the Bible truly does whisper His Name.
Bunny girl and I are slowly making our way through this Bible. Though this book is suggested for a specific age range, I have to admit I am drawn to the way the stories are narrated and particularly love the way they end pointing to Christ. Bunny girl has always loved stories from the Bible and loves looking at the pictures that go with each story. Jago's beautifully illustrated pages are bold, emphatic and bright, making them tell their own story alongside.
Our favorite story so far has been that of 'Daniel and the scary sleepover' ( I just love the title!).
Here are two excerpts from the same.....
That is just what the bad men knew Daniel would do. They skipped straight off to tell the king "Oh, Your Most Glittering Highness, your law says, does it not, that everyone must pray to you alone, Sire?"
"Yes" said the king. "Oh, Majesterial Brightness, then correct us if we're wrong but....it would seem that Daniel is praying to God- NOT TO YOU!"
and later the story ends this way....
God would keep on rescuing his people. And the time was coming when God would send another brave Hero, like Daniel, who would love God and do what God said- whatever it cost him, even if it meant he would die.
And together they would pull off the Greatest Rescue the world has ever known.
Now tell me, which kid (and adult!) wouldn't want to read more from this book?

ReplyDeleteMy favorite character has to be Paul, because after he was 'converted' on the road to Damascus, he didn't let who he was as Saul be a part of his future in Christ. He had that much revelation on His righteousness and Love. Amazing.
following now ;o)
ReplyDeleteI am going to say Daniel.

ReplyDeleteWell, besides Jesus, David is my favorite Bible character. No matter how far he strayed or what mistakes he made, he always went back to the Lord and knew that His way was best. He was afterall "a man after God's own heart"!
ReplyDeletedanielle78@comcast.net
It's hard to pick just one. Let's see, I'll go with Paul. I'm also blogging about this!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
Job is my favorite character in the bible because after all his losses, family, wealth & health, he put his total trust in God. Job is then given his health, happiness & prosperity greater than before. We learn to always trust our Lord, obey Him, and submit to His will whether we understand or not everything we go through.

ReplyDeleteI've always liked Joseph a lot - he had to take a lot on faith. Btw, I'm just catching up on posts, so I came here from the post about the deluxe version - and I think I may just have to buy that too! We listen to CDs in the car all the time - that would be a great fit for us!
ReplyDeleteAlso - I subscribe - I haven't been opening emails a lot lately, but I'm glad I did today! Bookmarked the deluxe version to make note of for a Christmas present, hopefully. Or, my son's birthday is in January if we don't get it in time. Or I could just open it up and start using it just because, of course!
ReplyDeleteEsme's is definitely Daniel! All those lions makes a hero out of him!
