'Families of the Bible'- Book review and Giveaway

I remember my mother saying to us as children " A family that prays together, stays together. " At the time the words seemed to just be one of those "Mama says so" statements but today as a grown woman with my own family I see the wisdom and wealth in those words. If it were not for God, what would the state of our families be in today?

Our problems may be minuscule in comparison to the crazy, violent stories we read about in the news but we need to accept reality- a problem is a problem! What's important is the way we deal with it. We can choose between the way God would want us to handle the issue or the way we would want to handle the issue......and I'm sure from experience you would say you would prefer God's way over any other way!

Familial issues, differences, problems and battles were rampant even as early as in the time of Adam and Eve. We know that the stories and facts recorded in the Bible have been done so for a purpose - to teach us, to enlighten us, to change us. It is with this wisdom that Howard Hovde and Louis Moore have written the book 'Families of the Bible': How they coped with today's problems.

This book highlights family problems in the lives of 11 children of God. People who were just like you and me. Yes we've read the stories countless number of times but it's when you read 'Families of the Bible' that you start to see the stories in a different light and in a way that you can parallel your situation to that of theirs. The book deals with issues like losing a loved one, adoption, offspring comparisons in personality, parenting and more.

I would suggest this book be used either as a Bible study for yourself , in your cell groups or in mini Bible study groups in Church. Each chapter ends with a set of introspective questions that deals with the issue addressed in that chapter. (The benefit of sitting down and having a study with other brothers and sisters in Christ is it would make your learning process a more enlightening and encouraging one.)

This book has been published by Hannibal Books and can be bought from their site for a low price of 12.99 US$

  8. I would love to win this book. Sometimes the answers to how we can best cope with problems comes from looking at the past to show us how others dealt with life's ups and downs. I know of no better source to learn from than from the Bible. Thanks!
